Congratulations!

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all who will have the chance to attend Deep Springs next year. By extending you an offer of admission, Apcom is endorsing your potential to make a tremendous impact on the DS community. It has been a pleasure meeting and sharing part of the journey with some of you through these forums and private communications.

Admission is a fantastic opportunity and I am certain that if you are willing to put in the requisite work, Deep Springs will present each of you with a chance to become a better individual. I would like to challenge each of you to be unafraid of taking risks—academic and social—during your time in the valley. There is undoubtedly no need for me to extol the virtues of Deep Springs here, but I would like to recount a memorable piece of advice I once received from Mr. Sam Allen (former Apcom Chair) during my visit: “The thing about student governance at Deep Springs is that you should try to surrender some personal freedom just for the sake of having lived with restrictions. Our model might not work so well on a national scale, but for once in your life you can really embrace ‘the ascetic.’ Make the most of the time you might spend here, two years is over before you expect it.”

Congratulations and best of luck!
