Essay time!

So...have you guys started your essays yet? I just started #1 today :\ ... I keep on telling myself it's worth the pain (and it is).

Who?

I would love to find out what type of young men apply to and then are accepted at this unique college. How would you describe yourself? How would your high school classmates describe you? Why you? Why here? What is your temperment, your personality, your character like? I'm intrigued by this school, but not sure what to make of it. It does seem like it would be life changing. How do you think/hope it will change your life?

Good luck to all applying!

I'm starting the essays as well. Funny though since there's no word limit. Should be lots and lots of fun!!!

Good luck everyone

Deep Springs just interests me in every way. The idea of labour, self reliance, etc etc are all the things I'm looking for in college.

Agreed. A big part of the reason that I'm applying is for the writing, and the chance to at least experience a small part of the hard work that DS requires.

What other colleges are you guys applying to? I'm still wondering what type of person is interested in this school? The experience really couldn't be compared to any other I would assume.

And if you get in ED to Princeton?

(I applied to Deep Springs and also to Columbia ED, but I got into Columbia ED and had to cancel my Deep Springs app, which was kind of sad but, I realize, a much more practical thing for me to do)

If I get ED into Princeton then I'm afraid there's no choice in the matter. The biggest problem with DS is that I have no idea how well my chances will go. I don't want to lose any advantage to applying to Princeton by applying RD.

I just hope when the time comes I won't regret cancelling my DS app (ill just tell myself I never had a chance to begin with)

But that might not be true. . . you'll hear about second round results from Deep Springs and ED results from Princeton almost on the same day. I got into the second round of DS, and for a few days I was thinking, well what do I do now. . . You'll probably regret canceling, but at the same time you'll know you want to go to Princeton.

You COULD apply to Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or UChicago EA instead. Or you could apply to Princeton ED and DS and Chicago EA and have better chances of an early admit somewhere.
