Banking?

Does anyone have recommendations about banks in Granville? I'm also wondering if it's necessary to set up an account near Denison vs. using one of our local banks.

Great question that I don't recall any addressing during accepted students or June-O days. Anyone know?

Afew ideas --

it depends on what is convenient for you.

Banks with a lot of atms in the Columbus/Granville area are Citibank, Huntington, Chase, National City and Fifth Third.

What banks are convenient for you at home? With my sons I found it more important that it be convenient for me to put money IN although now with on-line banking that's not really a convenience problem any more.

If there is a National City BAnk convenient to you that might be a good choice because NCB does not charge a fee for using non-NCB atms

You can look online to see if your bank has a branch in Columbus and/or Newark. I do know Granville has a Chase, Huntington, First Federal, Park National, and some other bank based out of Pataskala.

I'm pretty sure it's Park that has an ATM right outside the student bookstore. When you go through inprocessing on the first day (military background - that's what I call it) there will be tables set up for banks to help the students start an account. All the banks I spoke with had free accounts for the students.

Yes, it's Park that has the lone ATM on campus. And they send info for opening an account in the billing packet (makes sense I guess!). Called them to request an account registration packet, came w/in 2 days.

My understanding is that if students fill it out in advance, they'll have the cards, etc. all ready for them come 28 August during orientation.

It looks like PNC is a regional bank with offices in OH, KY and FL, AL (spring break needs??? ) There are some "biggies" there in Granville also ... National City, Huntington, some others too.

Any other thoughts on this?

Just as a follow-up, I checked with my bank (Wachovia) and they do have a checking account for college kids that allows 12 transactions per month for free (although only four are withdrawals--I forget what the other 8 are for). I went ahead and got him an account there. Now I just need to get him used to not going to the ATM more than once a week.
