Political Science/Philosophy/Economics

Does anybody know about the major at Denison that encompasses Political Science, Philosophy and Economics?

I've always wanted to major in political science and philosophy and was never really interested in economics but I feel like a study in economics would be very beneficial.

Tell me what you know! (And please don't leave out difficulty, I want to get good grades if I try hard!) Thanks!

I think it's like a double major that is spread across three departments, so you would have less electives than if you were to only have one major. I'm majoring in economics but i have taken classes in all three departments. The economics department at Denison is really good and one of the largest. Political Science and Philosophy are smaller, but seem to be good. I can't really tell you how hard it's going to be--it depends on what you're good at. You should check out their website or email the admissions office for more information.

This major interested my son for a while--the philosophy more so than the econ or poli sci, although he took macro and micro this past year (somewhat at the urging of his father). Those turned out to be very tough classes for him and I think he's done with economics.

Freshman year is certainly a time to poke around at things you might be interested in. You could always drop back to a double major (or single).

This sounds like a great major.

It's Denison's best-known major.

I might apply for it myself. It seems stellar.

Not to quibble, but I don't believe that's so. Communications. Psych. Bluegrass music.

But it is an interesting major. The down side: a little of a lot instead of a lot of a little. Let's face it, with 3 major disciplines, and additional liberal/general education requirements as well, each notably distinctive from the others, some big-time dabbling here. Unless one is figuring on the 6 year plan. My own view is this is one of those professorial brainstorms that sounds great but fails to deliver in substance, quality. Especially @ a DU where each of these areas are notably strong and demanding. Try doing 3 of them concurrently.

Remember though ...DU's fantastic scholarship plan (and it is! The lone LAC I school over past 2 years to be ranked in top 10 scholarship providers) only covers the 1st 4.
