If anybody visits...

...I'd be interested to see your Visit Report. Don't see any for DePauw yet: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/....html?letter=D

Especially from a prospective music student/parent. We probably won't get out there ourselves for another year or more.

In the meantime, I'll wade through these old DePauw threads to try to come up with the equivalent.

Don't know about music school. Just attended orientation for incoming freshman with son. Struck by DePauw's practicality of philosophy. Focus at DePauw is getting students into graduate school and good jobs. Talked about using the January term to get internships to position students for better full time jobs. No undergrad business school. Very different approach from "we're here to teach poetry - what you do upon graduation is your affair" that I see at some New England colleges. As a parent, I prefer the DePauw approach. High powered network of DePauw alums in Chicago.

Thanks, Fatheroftwo. Much appreciated.

Speaking of "we're here to teach poetry - what you do upon graduation is your affair," my wife and I toured Bard College in upstate New York today while my son is nearby at the Litchfield Jazz Camp in CT. We had pretty much ruled out Bard already for various reasons, but I wanted to take a look while I was in the area, thinking I may get swayed the other way by actually visiting. However, I'd say it's even further off the list now, in part because of what you've described regarding some NY/NE LACs. There's more I could say, but I should do so on a Bard thread.

Good luck to you and your son. Would love to hear more come this Fall. I've got a preliminary 'Heartland College Tour' itinerary put together now, and we plan on visiting DePauw late June next year.

I'm a student at DePauw. PM me if you have any questions. I also have friends in the music school I could direct you to if you'd like that route.

I visited DePauw last week, and I'm a prospective music student. I want to major in piano performance. What specfic questions do you have?

iluvpiano - In the Music Major forum there's a thread specifically about school visits for potential music majors. It's probably help somebody out if you could post a review there.

Or just the standardized College Visit area, where you're asked a few specifics, and then can write some free-form: Browse reports: Letter "D" College Selection

That area makes it easy to find all visit reports for a particular school, long after they've been written.

I don't necessarily have specific questions. I'd just like to read some visit feedback without prejudice. I'll ask followup questions if something comes up.
