President's Comments

Any other parents of new students who were a bit taken aback by Dickinson President Bill Durden's strident rant on college drinking at the parent orientation meeting this week? I understand that the topic was clearly on his mind due to the press coverage of the letter he had signed about discussing the drinking age. But I thought it was kind of inappropriate that it was the only topic he touched on with us... Admittedly that is probably the topic of most concern to me about having my kid at Dickinson, as the school has a reputation of signficant underage alcohol use. But I didn't get any warm fuzzies from him or the safety/security staff that they are actively dealing with it, either. What did everyone else think about this as his one and only topic with us?
