Admissions Interview?

The website says interviews are recommended, but not required. So, how important are they?

My D is a sophomore at Dickinson, and I have been involved with the local parents/alumni group. At Dickinson, having an interview is a fairly strong expression of interest--especially because if your child is unable to come to campus for an interview, you can request to be interviewed in or near your hometown by an alum or a parent volunteer. The admissions office says that these local interviews are given the same weight as an oncampus one. Therefore, if your child is quite interested in the school, it makes sense to schedule an interview.

My son felt the interview was quite important, especially as he was seeking merit $$$--he was able to convey how much he liked Dickinson (a lot!) but that he was also having to consider other schools.

As I think I've said elsewhere, D really nailed her interview (off campus, when they visited our city), and I think it sealed the deal for a Benjamin Rush scholarship.
