Decisions, decisions

We're going back and forth between Drew, Rutgers School of A&S honors, Lafayette and TCNJ. Anyone have any thoughts/insights?

That's a nice group of schools. Although my son likes Drew, he looked at those schools (minus Rutgers)With TCNJ at the time, not being guaranteed housing after 2 years (but I might be wrong about that)was a concern. They have some great programs though. Rutgers was too large but the honors program might "shrink" that somewhat and if you live in New Jersey, be a bargain. Lafayette was crossed off early for us because he didn't want a campus with a drinking culture and over 25% in fraternities/sororities. That is sometimes more noticeable in a smaller school too. If that isn't a concern, I think environment and maybe financial aid would be the clincher. They are all good schools in their own right with strengths and weakness's.
For my son, the small class sizes, (he's never had one over 35) with most being 20 or so was a big plus. He's always been a good student but gets distracted in lecture hall style class rooms. The advising has been excellent and the friendly students made him less homesick early on than I thought he would be. He hopes for more activities next year but realizes some of his inactivity was his fault. There's a lot to do if you take the initiative.

Debruns, thank you very much for the reply. We'll be at the Admitted Students' Open House next Saturday and our guys [twins] may do an over night the following Tues/Wed. They are both vegans which adds another element to the equation. We really appreciate your input.

Let us know how it goes.... my son isn't a vegan, but he said he doesn't really eat meat anymore, at least at school. I suppose finding "real meat" would be challenging at most colleges but he doesn't complain about the food in general.

Debruns, by the way, thanks for all of your input. It helped my d make her decision to enrol at Drew! She will be at the admitted students night in NY on the 25th, anyone else going?

My son has decided to attend Drew, also, but unfortunately can't be at either the admitted students weekend or the 24-25 events. We're doing a red-eye from Oregon to visit on the 26-27, though, hoping to sit in on a few classes, talk to relevant faculty, etc. It's great hearing positive feedback. I almost chased the mail truck down the street yesterday when he sent out his decline cards to Syracuse and Skidmore. He seems pretty comfortable with his choice, though

We missed the admitted student day too...car broke down, but he went for the day later on and enjoyed it. I think that's fine too, less crowded etc. They are having their Medieval Festival this weekend which is fun....and my son went to hear Bob Woodward Thursday night. Monday is course selection for next fall, so students are busy finalizing their selections. Can't believe the year went by so fast!

My son is going back and forth between Drew and Muhlenberg, and unfortunately they both have their Admitted Students Day on this Saturday. We plan to go to the Drew Reception this week, and Muhlenberg on Saturday. His focus is theater and it looks like they are on par with one another. Hard to decide.

Hey NotaDuck, no worries, one of my best friends here just transferred from Skidmore ~ she hated it there.... too cold and depressing. She is very happy with Drew!

As another transfer student, from Washington & Lee University (one of CC's top liberal arts schools), I am so happy to be at Drew.

My d is a theater major also and had a number of choices. She felt the proximity to NY and the NJ Shakespeare theater made it a better choice. Good luck!
