Anyone been there?

OK, we've seen the brochures, but have yet to take the tour. Does anyone have any thoughts or impressions about Drew which are not in the slick brochure they put out?

You can PM me if you want with any questions, my son goes there and I might be able to help you with some questions or issues.

Hi FM.

My D is a freshman at Drew. I just posted the following for a student thinking about transferring out of UVM....Sums Drew up pretty well:

If you decide you really want to transfer, consider taking a look at Drew in Madison, NJ. It would probably be a match/safety for you. It's small (about 1700 undergrads) and seems very personal. There is a lot more diversity there than you're probably encountering in VT. It's on a commuter line to NYC (about an hour), and it has tons of interesting off-campus opportunities for travel and study. It's pretty good with merit aid (see other threads about this). Also, the campus is gorgeous!

Meanwhile debruns is a great resource person.

My niece graduated from Drew a few years ago and loved her time there. It is quite expensive but I believe is good with FA.

Definitely worth the visit. I would arrange to meet some professors in the department your son or daughter is interested. I graduated 25 years ago and am still connected through alumni activities. Aside from the absolute beauty of the campus, the unbeatable proximity and access to NYC, academics are stronger than you would believe given the low-key press Drew receives, professors are always available, classes are small, there is plenty to do and the students, friendly.

The above link should be helpful to you. Our sons are freshmen and love Drew. It remains below the radar screen, but that should not last much longer. Four National Honor Society students from our sons' high school chose Drew this fall over Lafayette, Rutgers A&S Honors, TCNJ , Fordham and Villanova. It offers tremendous personal academic attention, very good food and seems to be a lot of fun on weekends. The campus is stunning. A new suite style dorm will be up in a year and a new student center is being planned. A number of movies have been filmed at Drew. The latest, I think, is The Family Stone which has great Christmas season shots. Madison is also especially beautiful during the holidays. The train to NYC is easily walkable from campus

Hi Opmsma, hope your boys settled in okay for the fall semester. My son is a sophomore now and except for switching minors weekly, is a lot more relaxed this year. The attention and time they receive from the professors is great. He felt that was what college was about really, the grounds are nice, the students, etc. but being lost in a large lecture hall wasn't his thing. I'm glad he can still have that rapport in college.
