Merit Aid

Hi!

So I got accepted into Drew (yayyy), and I just received the letter in the mail, but there was nothing about merit aid. Does that mean I didn't get any? Or do they send merit aid info in March?

I'm an international student btw... Do they even give merit aid to internationals? Lol, their website is so ambiguous.

Congrats, cdover!

Regarding your question, I suspect most of us who check in on the Drew threads would only be guessing about the availability of aid to international students. So I'd suggest that you give the Financial Aid folks a call. I found them to be extremely helpful when my D was looking at colleges two years ago. Good luck!

Thank you!! And thanks for the speedy reply, once again.

Um. Okay, I'll give the place a ring, and put an update on here later.

Just an update:

Drew DOES NOT award merit aid to INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS. Ignore the fact that the website says that it does (though, limited), and that the only merit aid not awarded to international students is that Presidents Arts one or whatever.

Good luck!

This was on their website:
An international applicant who is academically qualified for admissions but whose financial need cannot be met in full by Drew (as determined by Drew's Office of Financial Assistance using the information on the International Student Financial Statement), will be denied admission. Remember: Financial assistance is limited for international students and will cover very little, if any, of the cost of attendance at Drew.

If you were admitted, they must have thought your family could afford it. If not, I'm not sure why they would have admitted you. Of course, that word "afford" is disputed everyday by parents in the US.

Yeah, well they'll admit you if you can show you can pay for one year, not the four. And they only look at your bank statement, nothing on how many siblings you have in college or what of that is retirement funds or if you own a house and if you do, how much that is. Etc.
