My son is at Drew and he doesn't go a lot but says certain groups do. Sometimes it's just that some students don't like NYC that much, others it's spaced out because of money. The trains have discounts during the year, but you can spend an awful lot in the city if you aren't careful. Sometimes the school sponsers trips to plays, Little Italy, etc. which is nice. You would probably be one of the "frequent flyers" : )
ah waveswatcher, i go into the city on a pretty frequent basis to go to shows in the village, hang out with friends. this semester, i will definitely be in the city a lot because of a class i am taking - literary brooklyn from walt whitman to mos def - requires me to go into brooklyn to go to poetry slams and other events. it's about fifteen dollars round trip to nyc, not too bad but it does get expensive to go often.
Lasercat - seems like you are willing to explore the city like me. I don't have a lot of money, but I do enjoy a show or vintage shopping in Soho. I have been known to wander Canal Street and I've taken the Staten Island Ferry just to get away from the mobs for a minute or two. Every day Drew sounds more and more perfect for me.
