Best Bike for the City

At orientation, I heard that a lot of students bring bikes and that they had storage space in the residence halls/basements....

Is a road bicycle preferable to a mountain bike?

Or does it really matter?

Personal preference really. I have a mountain bike and it works fine riding on trails or in the street (I ride to and from work downtown a couple days a week). I know others that prefer road bikes. Whatever's easier for you to use. Also if you're living in Race they do have the storage there that you can access from the side of the building. I know Myers has a little storage area as well. Make sure you get a good lock though because it's the city!
