Summer Reading?!

Did anyone get their summer reading book yet? If so, how long is the book?

The book is pretty long - about 450 pages I think. US students should get them at the end of June or beginning of July. International students already got them.

Dudes, the summer reading is not something to be stressed about. The books are usually really good and what else do you have to do this summer? Also, it isn't like you will be tested on it or anything. Just enjoy reading the book. (it really is the opposite of work; you will never need to regurgitate anything from it or write a paper on it or anything, just read it for fun)

Again, these books are usually really really good. I know I'm looking forward to getting my RA copy.

"What is the What," by Dave Eggers and definitely agree with SirGecko's statement, I wish west RAs also get the books (and get out as early as east RAs do in early may....)

I wasn't saying that the book sucks or that Duke is making us do something outrageous. I just wish I didn't have to read it =P. Working 50 hours/week is making me lazy in other aspects of my life.

Oh my goodness you guys are SO LUCKY to be assigned that book. Dave Eggers is hilarious, and What is the What is amazing! Please don't complain- I am jealous!

I feel like 450 pages is nothing nowadays too. I'm doing a Duke summer program abroad for summer session II and I have to read 6 Victorian novels before I go (about 400-600 pages each) and a bunch of poetry as well. It's mandatory pre-requisite reading. Ohhhhh Duke. How I love thee anyway.

My point was that you don't *have* to read it. They really don't test you on it so it *isn't* really an assignment. Its really just a free book that they recommend you read. (I realize they say you have to read it but you really shouldn't feel like it is an assignment, if you don't have time to finish it before orientation than whatever; I'd just recommend it so you have something to talk about when you meet with your FAQ group)

Anyway, enjoy the book. And don't stress out, read it at your leisure.

I'm glad it's a funny book. As much as I liked it, My Sister's Keeper was too much of a tearjerker.

Do you guys know when it's gonna get here? I'll be going out of the country in a week and I won't be back until right before orientation. Should I just buy a copy now?
