I am a late Freshman admit to Duke. A little confusing but to be short: I was accepted to Duke for this fall, went somewhere else but it fell through and turned out I had to ask to be re-admitted to Duke and was let back into 2012. Now I'm in a rush to set everything up for the year.

I just set up my net ID and password. However, I haven't gotten much direction from the offices, they don't have time to send me the directions and letters.

What all do I need to do online, (scheduling courses etc.) in order to get ready and where do I go online to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all let me say congrats on Duke and on your decision (even if the timing may not be that great lol). But to the point: yes getting everything sorted out can be very confusing, especially in such short notice. I hope I can help you as much as possible.

First of all: did you receive a Blue Book? It should have a big 12 on the front written with little dots and what not. THIS BOOK is the key to life as far as getting all your stuff done before heading to Duke. If you do not have this book, getting everything done will be difficult, but possible.

I am assuming you do not have the book, so here goes.

First off, go to Welcome to Duke University and click on "Students". Then click the "Duke Pass" section off to the right on the following page. Then click "Login" once you get to the DukePass site. This is where you input your NetID and password. This should take you to a "First-Year Checklist" page. There should be a line of red exclamation points next to a grid of things such as Registration, Housing, Dining, etc. These all should be completed as soon as possible. Now, I am not sure if they are still open and allowing people to access them; your situation is very unique. If at all possible, try and complete any/all of these.

Registering: As I said your situation is unique so I do not know if you can register at this time, but I am pretty certain you can. Click the "ACES" link on the Duke Pass page. This ACES site is like your little Duke home. This is where all the grades, schedules, bills, and so on reside. For you I am guessing you should just go to "Class search" and go ahead and start looking for classes. Not sure if they'll just let you hop into classes just like that, but it's worth a try. Green dots mean open classes; red dots mean full. Make sure if you sign up for a class with a lab that you also register for the lab itself. Also, you need to take a seminar and a writing 20 class freshman year, one per semester I believe. (All the cool writing 20's are taken I believe.)

Immunizations, Housing, and Dining are all pretty self explanatory, or at least they should be, on that site. Their respective emails for inquiries are right there too, so you might want to hit that up.

I am not sure if you have a Duke email address or not, but it will be very helpful. I got a letter in the mail telling me how to set it up. Go to webmail.duke.edu and see if you can use your NetID and password to set up your email through Duke.

Finances: Also on ACES you will find all your financial matters. Just click "Account Inquiry" and this should take you to tabs such as "Bills", "Pending Aid", and things like that.

This should at least get you started on getting ready for Duke. I would advise calling a type of counselor, emailing a financial aid counselor, or just emailing and touching base with someone to inform them of your situation if you haven't already done so.
