Sororities

I'm attending Duke in the Fall. I know there is a pretty predominant greek life and I'm interested in joining a sorority. What are the different reputations of the sororities? Is it a big time commitment?

Hopefully this hasn't already been posted about. Couldn't find it anywhere.

Thank you!

My suggestion is that you don't go into recruitment with any ideas of where you want to be. When you get to campus you'll quickly learn about the "Core 4" sororities (debatable "Key 3" now), which are the "top" sororities that hang out with the "top" fraternities. Honestly, though, go through recruitment, meet all the girls, and you'll end up where you want to be! You'll meet girls in all different sororities at parties once you get to campus and learn what everyone is about.

In terms of a time commitment, it's what you make of it. I had friends whose entire LIVES were their sorority...they were on exec...some even landed jobs in national leadership post graduation. I did, however, know others who went to events every few weekends, meetings, and just hung out with their sisters. I mean, you're going to have chapter once a week which is generally 30 minutes to an hour, and then events you have to attend, but most things are fun (formals, etc) so it's not going to take over your life unless you want it to.
