Air conditioning

If I want to have air conditioning (willing to pay extra for it), how do I request it (although no medical needs)?

Through the new student housing application I would imagine, if indeed such an option exists. If not, then you are SOL without a doctor's note.

You can only have the AC with the doctor's note OR if you are luckily assigned either Bell Tower, Blackwell or Randolph, and that mainly happens for some Focus students, But, I'm not very sure.

Many of the athletes also get the better dorms with A/C, but there is no other way to get it except for allergies and asthma (with a doctor's note). I think it's ridiculous for them to have so many non-A/C dorms in a southern school, especially with the hot weather in the fall. They have been talking about renovations and new construction for years, but with no real results. Don't count on any changes even though the housing continues to deterioriate on east, west, & central.

Question, if I get randomly assigned to...let's say Belltower, do I HAVE to pay extra because it has A/C?? That sounds kind of ridiculous. I'd rather suffer for a couple of weeks than have to shell out $500 extra.

You can request a room reassignment if you don't want the AC and got one. On the other hand, I think your financial aid is adjusted for the extra expense of AC if you were assigned one.

Yup, that's how it happens. They change your aid with the change in the housing bill!

If you do have asthma, where are you supposed to send the doctor's note?

@Zouwie25: See here, Residence Life and Housing Services :: :: Housing :: Medical/Disability. There is a link to the paperwork that needs to be completed.

If I get an AC unit for our room for medical purposes, does my roommate also have to pay extra?

I don't believe so, since your roommate doesn't exactly have much control over his/her roommate's health. I could be wrong though.

I found that having AC isn't completely necessary. If you have a couple fans, you'll be fine. It's really only hot the first and last couple weeks of school.
