| Sorry for the delay
I would definitely recommend getting a laptop from Duke, it comes with a 4 year warranty that has been very helpful in my case.
Yes, people hang out on East Lawn a LOT and sunbathe, read, toss the football, play ultimate... it's an awesome space.
AT&T service is terrible on Duke's West campus. A lot of people got it for their iPhones, but I had a couple people switch back to their previous provider because the service was so bad. I use Verizon and it's great.
During the day, buses usually run every 5 minutes or so between east and west. It's a really fast commute, but slows down as the day goes on. Give yourself 15 minutes and you'll be fine.
IM soccer is really fun, a lot of people are competitive, but there's a lot of opportunity to play. There are instructions on how to sign up during orientation.
I don't know too much about the English department, sorry.

AT&T service has been improving recently from what I hear. Last year I heard through the grapevine that more repeaters are going up around campus.

I never had trouble. Got service everywhere from L2 of Perkins to the depths of the Bryan Center. The only place I didn't get service was inside of the West Campus dorms...but most services are the same. I don't know anyone who got service inside the Edens buildings. But yeah, for me switching from Sprint to AT&T gave me a marked improvement in service.

I had Verizon service in edens, but my friend who had an iPhone had no trouble either. My other friend who had regular AT&T service, however, usually had to stand by the window.
The only other place besides those mentioned above where Verizon might be a bit better would be in the engineering quad, but it's not that much better either.

Okay, so I've actually changed my schedule a bit so that I'll have to be going from White Hall to Bio Sciences in 20 minutes (early afternoon). Will I be able to? Also, the Bio Sciences is a lab--will the grad students be lenient if I'm a few minutes late?

hookem168 - the article, The Decline and Revival of Liberal Learning at Duke: The Focus and Gerst Programs is great! I wish it had been available when my D made her decision to attend Duke!

Is engineering at DUke tough? And by that i mean, do the engineering students study all the time and have terrible schedules.

Compared to non-premed Trinity students, Pratt students are in class/labs twice the amount of time. It's pretty brutal.
