the bare minimum would probably be a few changes of clothes, some money, legal/travel documents, and yourself. Everything else you can probably buy there.
Otherwise, you should check out the College Life forum on CC, they have great lists of stuff to bring. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-life/ |

Question: What's AT&T like in Durham/on campus? How is the reception? Is it uncommon for people to use AT&T? Is it significantly more expensive?

What is the commute time between East and West campuses using the bus system (especially during "busy" hours)?

It felt like only a couple of minutes to me when I visited there but I certainly didn't visit at a busy time.

@ constantly
The blue book said that Verizon and AT&T have great reception on campus and are connected somehow to the university, but other carriers are not as consistant. Thats just what I read though.

@azngod1992: you should probably budget 15-20 minutes at peak times to get to West in the morning and maybe a 5-10 minute walk depending on where your classes are.

Would 20 minutes be enough time to get from Old Chem (in West) to White Lecture (in East)? Specifically, with my prospective schedule, I'd have to leave Old Chem at 12:55pm and arrive at White Lecture (which is next to Aycock) by 1:15pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Also, do you have any experience with IM soccer? How competitive is it? How do I sign up?

I don't think 12:55 is a peak time in terms of commuting so you should be fine, however 20 minutes is still cutting it a bit thin. You have to account for the fact that you won't likely won't get to leave at exactly 12:55 since profs will run over and it takes a couple minutes to pack and leave and all that.

AT&T is fine on campus. As you can imagine, iPhones are everywhere. I also had Sprint for awhile, and found that it was very reasonable as well. Got service just about everywhere except the west campus dorms (which are virtually impossible to get service in anyway)

also, knat, I think you'll be fine with your 12:55-1:15 commute. I did Old Chem-East Duke (which is right next to White) last semester with 20 minutes in between and while I did have to walk fast, it was fine. Actually, my freshman year I did Gross Chem to Carr in 20...THAT was fun. If your class is in the lecture hall of White, then you can always walk in late on days when you don't make it...if it's a lecture no one cares. Professors, in my experience, have been great about accommodating students who had short periods of time between two classes, just because of the nature of Duke's two campuses.

^ The English department had a huge debacle when Stanley Fish, the postmodernist to end all postmodernists lol, was around..but in the past decade, they've started rebuilding a really solid, recognized, traditionally literary program
Tons about it here, starting around page 6 I believe: http://www.johnlocke.org/acrobat/pop...ocus&gerst.pdf |
