What classes should I take?

Hello,

I'm trying to figure what classes I should take this year at Duke, this is my first year of course. My prospective major is biomed. engineer

Should I take a writing class like writing 20? or maybe a math class like LAB CALC/FUNCTIONS I 25L

I'm also part of the engineering focus program so I am already enrolled in some classes. I also want to take classical piano.

If there are any suggestions or advice I would appreciate them. Thanks

If the basic engineering requirements is still anything like it was when I was a freshmen 3 years ago (and it still is), then Pratt will assign you to take writing 20 your spring semester and you have to take a sequence of math classes starting with Math 31 (31, 32, 103, 107, 108, stats113).

Check the BME undergrad handbook which has a ton of sample schedules:

Thanks SMB

Wow! Thanks a lot I really appreciate your help; i guess I'll plan to take a math course this fall and I can always change it later if needed;

Also there were Math 25 and 26 I was wondering should I take those courses first before I take math 31 or are they not required?

Given the number of math courses you are required to take and how some of the higher ones are pre-reqs for some of the higher engineering courses and have the lower math courses as pre-reqs themselves, I wouldn't waste time taking intro classes you don't need. As it stands, if you start with math 31, you'll already need to take 6 semesters of math classes, why make it harder on yourself?
