| Re: Class Schedule This is more a question for those that are current Duke students:
I will be a freshman next year at Duke and have a few questions regarding class schedule. My major interest is economy, but I would also like to focus on writing. So, if anyone has gone that path before, could you please list your class schedule for freshman year? Also, I was wondering - if I get a 4/5 on Economy AP and Calculus BC, should I opt out of the freshman courses at Duke, because I have heard that Math 103 and Economy 51/53? are very challenging courses. Thanks for your help |

| I may be wrong (i'm an engineer, not an econ major lol), but I've never heard of any sort of writing concentration within the econ major...also, i know for sure that there's no way to get out of math 103 with ap credits because it's multivariable calculus, not BC. and yes, a 4 or 5 on the ap econs will get you out of econ 51, which would probably be a good thing because econ 51 is pretty hard. |

| I know that there's no way to pass out of Math 103, but I was just wondering whether I should still take Math 31 or Math 32 freshman year due to the rigor of Math 103. |

| I took 103 1st semester, and it certainly wasn't undoable. It all depends on how comfortable you are with math, but I also have heard 32 is harder than 103. |

| Don't they have Math 102 now, for Econ majors? It's basically just covers concepts from 103 necessary for Economics.
In terms of writing, there isn't a concentration per say, but you will definitely find a lot of classes centered on doing extensive research and writing. My roommate has had 2 classes now where she's written like, 40+ page research papers analyzing everything from urban economics and poverty and whatnot, one of which she is considering revising for publication. |

| I got a 5 on BC junior year and felt the need to take 32.
I would just go on with 103.
I didn't get an A in 32 (everyone in my class already had BC credit too, haha)
Hardly anything (except integration) that I learned in 32 was used in 103.
I would got to 103 or 102, if you think you want to do Econ, do 102!
102>103 in terms of easiness. |
