How do i order textbooks through Duke? I looked on the bookstore website, but only the summer 2008 term comes up. Anyone know?

Is there a bookstore on campus that we can go to during orientation to pick up our books? I'd rather not have to bring all my textbooks with me when I go to Duke.

To answer your questions in the order posed:

1) You can either use Blue Devil Delivery or buy them yourself online from the Dukestore or when you get there. The booklist for the fall semester will be up sometime in late July or early August.

3). Yes, there's a bookstore on campus directly under the Dukestore in the Bryan Center. You can go there to buy/pickup your books. Otherwise, if you chose Blue Devil Delivery, you can pick up the books in Lilly Library (IIRC) on East Campus on move in day.

Both buying your books at the Dukestore and especially Blue Devil Delivery are fairly over-priced. If you don't want to bring stuff with you physically to Duke because of lack of space, I suggest you look into buying the books through a cheaper retailer and then shipping them to your dorm. I can almost guarantee you that even with the shipping, it will be cheaper.

The key is to research the prices at both Duke and elsewhere to compare.

The downside is that you have to time the shipping if you don't want to take your books to Duke or want to use your book the first day of class. If you can manage that, buying used/new books from third party sellers on half.com or amazon.com can usually save you 50% off what Dukestore charges.

Oh and you can order your books ahead of time from the Dukestore and and then go pick them up there. I'd recommend that over Blue devil delivery everyday. (it really is a ripoff as all it does is save you a trip to west and you get charged so much more)

While I see what SBR is trying to say, there is no way you should need any textbook the week, let alone the first day, or classes unless well-specified, reminded, and reminded again by the professor. Everybody knows that there's a fair chance that many people will drop so having them buy the book return it a week later. In my experience no professors have taught from the book at all in the first week; actually in my experience few professors have mentioned the book at all except for supplemental reading which you can do anytime.

They book list should come up with ample time to order online before your first class. Avoid buying from Duke if at all possible. For me, Duke has never even come close to matching the prices that you can find online.
