Just Handed in my Check

I'm at BDD right now and after visiting the campus I decided to hand in my check. What cinched the deal for me was the friendliness of the students. When I was lost and holding up the big map I had tons of people come over and offer to help. We ended up having great conversations all day. There WERE a few people who were the "snob" type, but oddly enough these were the prospective undergraduates NOT the actual frosh students.

I had a really fun time today. I walked from East Campus to West Campus and saw the "Old South" peeking out. However, it was when I got a tour of the East Campus dorms that I decided to matriculate. Not that the dorms were anything impressive(so far, out of all the colleges I've seen, Yale has the nicest dorms). But, it was the people who were so informative and helpful. They were celebrating the decision of some UNC-Chapel Hill Athletes to go for the NFL. Thus, they were drinking. It was funny because the residential life dean was telling my dad how it was a dry campus literally while we saw 3 students pass by with beer bottles. When I went to the dorm, all of the people on the floor offered me a tour of their rooms. I decided that I wanted a double. Anyway, I really felt as if I could see myself amongst this crowd of people.

Hopefully the people who were snobbish choose another college

the speech by prez brodhead this morning was so cool. It was almost a paraphrase of my why duke essay(which I think was the deciding factor in me getting in). He basically said that even though academics are central, it is necessary to apply those academics to the real world. For example, some Pratt students have decided to build a smart house which will feature the most environmentally friendly technology and materials available. Which other university would fund such an ambitious project?

The "students only" session was rather blase. The first question uttered was about the drinking policy. The person responded with the standard line "East CAmpus is a dry campus" lol, YEAH RIGHT. I guess that amber colored liquid I saw in all those Corona bottles in the dorms was honey. Who knew that Duke frosh had such sweet tooth?

In conclusion, I am happy to be attending Duke. Any doubts or misgivings I may have had have been eroded. I LOVE Duke, espescially the students body. It is rare that you can get such intelligent smart people which are only competing with themselves and not anyone else For any of those who are still unsure, GO TO DUKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I can't say it any louder. It is a great place to be.

Thanks

PS. I was reading in newsweek that most students get checked for STD's after the basketball crazed tent city ends. Who knows what happens in those tends . That alone should be the deciding factor in choosing Duke.... lol, jk
