Duke Accepts Nearly 550 Early Decision Applicants

I think Duke is starting to figure out why its yield was so 'low'.
They admitted about 75 more people than in the past.

RD is going to be more difficult this year, by the fact that Gutentag praises the fact that these are 'talented and enthusiastic' students means, I think, that Duke is going to be really looking for applicants who show a strong passion for Duke this year.

So, RD people, remember to show this passion in your application!

Wow, almost 550..... When I read the number on the acceptance letter, I thought it's 400+ to 500. Yeah, RD-ers are gonna have a lot of competition this year. Make sure the Why Duke essay is well-written.

But Duke is admitting a smaller percentage of ED applicants...35% this year, compared to 38% in 2007 and 39% in 2006.

I was admitted ED in '05 and I'm pretty sure that they only took 470.

I am not saying that it was easier to get into Duke ED this year.
The only thing I'm pointing out is that there are less spots left for RD this year.

It isn't necessarily less spots for RD - the past few years, the number of people enrolling RD has been less than expected and so Duke's been having to go to the waitlist a lot. I think this year they might end up accepting at the same rate for RD but since they have a higher number of people who will definitely enroll (ED students), they won't have to go to the waitlist as much. So in my opinion, you don't have to worry unless you're waitlisted.

^That's a good point. I forgot the admit rate was originally under 20% when Duke didn't have to use the waitlist.

Hmm, I'm applying to pratt. Looks like they took 100 ED for pratt, which leaves ~900 RD.
