Except for friends of friends, I don't personally know any UNC students. But I doubt they'd refer to their basketball players as "a bunch of subpar students/semi-pro athletes [who] throw a ball around."
That said, due to rivalry and proximity, I believe that UNC students, more than anyone else, seem to know Dukies for who they really are and what their "true colors" are like.

But that's not what you said. You said DUKE PLAYERS are subpar students/semi-pro athletes that throw a ball around, which is something a UNC student definitely would say. Nice try covering it up though,......actually nevermind that was terrible. At any rate, I think we have our answer, interestingguy definitely got rejected from Duke and got stuck at UNC, poor thing. *weeps*

^ Both Duke and UNC basketball players are "subpar students/semi-pro athletes [who] throw a ball around." Happy?
questcrew, you definitely got rejected from HYPSM and got stuck at Duke, poor thing. *weeps*
The school I attend (it could be one of the many from which you were rejected) does not serve as an NBA development league. HTH.
BTW, this is what I said exactly: Quote: |
IMO, "goal-oriented," "ambitious" and "bright" are not exactly how I'd describe those who spend weeks camping out for tickets to see a bunch of subpar students/semi-pro athletes throw a ball around.
| Presumably, Dukies are watching the opposing players play as well, no? Clearly, you didn't do too well on the CR section of the SAT.

It seems to me that Dukies acquire and display HYP-level elitism without HYP-level credentials.

Lol wasn't duke like #3 in the nation a few years back?

^ US News rankings do not necessarily mirror reality (and often do not). But you Dukies will always have that "Paris."

| Neither does Duke. Coach K routinely turns promising future NBA draft picks into glorified NBA or NBDL bench warmers.

Oh, questcrew, next time you want to engage in amateur detective work, try using the search function. You do know how it works, don't you?
You could've easily found this post by me: Quote: |
This is because both Duke and Carolina have basketball factory standards for athlete admissions.
| Is Duke's supplement essay TRULY optional? |

searching also yields the fact that you often cite USNWR rankings when it suits your argument, Interestingguy. Yet you dismiss the source, as above, when it does not suit.
But, you are very young. You may yet learn better manners and methods.

I don't have an "apparent deep-seated disdain for Duke," but this is what I wrote elsewhere:
Quote:
"I honestly don't understand why Dukies always try to elevate their school above their peers. That's why claims such as those made by the OP are calling out to be challenged and I am more than happy to do so. In this thread alone, we hear that "at Duke we have more class," Duke is (except for HYPSM) the "next best option" and the "number 6 feeder school in the nation," etc."
It seems to me that Dukies acquire and display HYP-level elitism without HYP-level credentials.
| That still doesn't justify why you get so irritated when Dukies say some random aspect of their school is better than the parallel aspect at HYP. Like athletics, for example. What's wrong with saying Duke athletics/Duke school spirit is more hard-core than at HYP? It is a simple fact yet you spent many posts arguing with me on that.

| Essentially, probably HYPSM. If so, he's got a lot of insecurities if he feels the need to go to the Duke forum and proclaim how superior his league of schools is. And if he doesn't, then I don't see why he's on these forums bashing Duke since he has no first-hand knowledge of anything he's talking about. And either way, it kind of sucks to be him, spending all his time on these forums bashing Duke and WUSTL.

exactly. i highly doubt that someone going to HYPSM would just go to the duke forum and just bash it. i doubt he goes to any of the schools.

Interesting guy is some sociopath who wishes everyone were as miserable as he is. Sorry about that, un-interesting guy. Anyone who spends all his time on a CC thread that's not even his own school can't be very interesting!
I love the sports at Duke - that's one reason I wanted to come here instead of a school without that spirit. Why not have some fun along with studying?
Because Duke has athletic scholarships it accepts far fewer athletic recruits than the Ivies or schools like Williams who have to recruit about 10 students for every athletic position since the students have no incentive to keep playing once accepted. My high school gets about 10 athletic recruits into the Ivies every year - we've never had one at Duke, since the athletic standard is so much higher.

You'd be surprised by how many kids at my school turned down and/or look down on Duke. Though you'll probably never find out for yourself.
