Because Duke has athletic scholarships it accepts far fewer athletic recruits than the Ivies or schools like Williams who have to recruit about 10 students for every athletic position since the students have no incentive to keep playing once accepted.
| Ivy and LAC athletes are real students, not mercenaries. Quote: |
My high school gets about 10 athletic recruits into the Ivies every year - we've never had one at Duke, since the athletic standard is so much higher.
| Professional athletes tend to play better than amateur athletes.

It is wonderful that you are pleased with your choice, interstingguy, whatever it is. You might like it even better if you were to spend your time with your classmates instead of appearing to be a persistently pathetic gadfly on other college boards.

You'd be surprised by how many kids at my school turned down and/or look down on Duke. Though you'll probably never find out for yourself.
| haha yeah, at first i was kinda curious about where you go. but now i don't really care - no matter what, you're still a bit of an idiot...

That's just dumb, it's not like UNC is a football powerhouse either. Did you guys have fun losing to Virginia by just as much a month ago?

| UNC is no football powerhouse by any means, but it is still a lot better than Duke. Quote: |

| Nope, that was terrible. Worst game I've seen us play in a while. Still, I'd take a loss to UVa over a loss to Richmond any day of the week.

Yeah, in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king...better than Duke is not something to be proud of in football.

| Sure it is-I would rather be better than Duke than worse than Duke.
And our team isn't too shabby, either. Great season last year, and we're having an OK one so far this year.
Not to mention, there is somewhat of a rivalry between us.

Yeah, forgive me for not holding up my end of the rivalry, but I'm not from NC and really don't care if people at UNC think they are better than Duke at football/being southern/whatever little thing that doesn't really matter. Sure basketball rivalry is great and all since both programs are great, but this whole finding any small thing to be better than Duke at is kind of pointless. Have it your way.

Football isn't a "small" thing in this country, and most people would agree that UNC and Duke share a rivalry in football just as they do in basketball. Heck, there's even a liberty bell that goes to the winner of the football game every year. But, if you're not from around here, I guess it can't be too surprising that you didn't know this.

I know about the bell, but college football in NC isn't exactly a national thing. We are not talking about the USC/Cal rivalry or the Wolverine/Buckeye rivalry. So comparatively, it's not a big thing. I'm sure most people not from NC will identify the UNC/Duke rivalry as mostly a basketball rivalry.

^^
Can't argue with that. Hopefully, the football rivalry will expand so we can get a better two-sport rivalry going.
