Pharmacy Chances

An alumni on the Pitt board recommended Duquesne Pharmacy school. Would my kid have a chance of being admitted to the Pharmacy program at Duquesne? 650 verbal, 650 math, 700 writing, 3.65-3.70 GPA, at the 1/3 cut-off, competitive Western PA high school. 15 credits, including 3 AP courses with grades of 3 and 4, 4 credits (statistics) from Pitt and 3 credits (French) from LaRoche. The usual activities, including 300+ hours volunteering, a varsity sport, and now working 20 hours a week as a Senior while earning a 4.0+ in Calculus, Anatomy, etc. Thank you for the feedback!

Most likely, yes, I'd say your son/daughter has a very good chance. The Pharmacy school at Duquesne is great (I'm not in it, but I have a lot of friends who are).

Thank you for responding. Do you think it would help to schedule an interview with the admissions office or the School of Pharmacy?

Any idea when admissions will be mailed out? Our final choices look like they're coming down to Pitt (admitted as prepharmacy, but the pharmacy program is very difficult to get into); Duquesne (applied to the 0-6 program) and SUNY Buffalo (waiting to hear but expect an admit to their prepharmacy program). Each school has big pluses and minuses. Pitt is the highest ranked by Newsweek and offers great research and internship opportunities in the hospitals adjoining the campus for anyone pursuing a medical career, SUNY is the cheapest and has a grade-based guarantee program for freshman declaring pharmacy as a major, and Duquesne's 0-6 program eliminates a huge amount of stress and is highly rated by its students. Sigh. It's only my kid's entire future.....
