English dept?

Can anyone comment on how the English department, and creative writing program, is at Earlham?

I don't. I have heard tell of an active Earlham online community where students discuss many things, but I'm too unsavy to know where it is. I suppose it could be searched. It amazes me that no one has replied. I knew all about my Eng Dept and a few other Depts 35 yrs ago...ouch.

Check their web site and you will find that Creative Writing is not a significant offering. Earlham has many strengths, Creative Writing is not one of them.

I had looked at the website, but it was hard to tell. Are you a student? do you know other students who have taken creative writing at Earlham?

Is your son interested in creative writing, applicantsmom? They do have a creative writing minor. We are going for the second accepted student overnight and hope to find out more then. How about you?

sorry I don't know where to stay there, but I thought there was a list with the stuff they sent us. My daughter is staying in the dorm and I'm driving to Cincinnati after leaving her because we have family there. But if we don't meet, we can share impressions on CC afterwards!

We had a very good visit to Earlham. Everyone is very nice there and the school seems to have a lot going for it. On the particular subject of English and writing at Earlham, my daughter was able to speak to an English teacher there and was very impressed with him. Although English is not a big department there, he said they do have a lot of majors and a nice community of students interested in writing. There is not a huge offering of creative writing courses, but there are some. So it's not a bad choice to attend Earlham for English and writing, though of course there are other schools with better programs. But I think it's important to look at the whole context. My daughter thought the art was great at Earlham, for example, and also went to a great philosophy course.

Took my son to the student admit day and it was really nice. They treated the parents with wonderful food and panels with students and faculty. My son really likes the school especially the biology dept which is highly rated. He likes the laid back atmosphere and the campus itself. It's between Earlham and Beloit.
Applicantsmom, what did your son think?
