| I can tell you that my son knows nothing, because I asked. The students are in the middle of voice juries and finals this week.
Acceptances and deferrals are not widely known among the students. |

| Agree with Ericsmom. Finally talked to my daughter today for the first time in over a week. Even that was a quick hello and brief update on vocal juries, dance finals, acting class scene presentations, etc. She is CRAZY busy with end of semester MT stuff and finals/research projects/papers in her academic subjects. She knows nothing about Elon acceptances, etc. except what she's heard from friends of friends, etc. She knows of certain friends in her program who had friends rejected or accepted or deferred. That is all. Certainly nothing official. |

| I wish my info was from Elon, sorry, just from another Mom. But you are right. If we do not hear numbers directly from somebody at Elon, anything else is just speculation at best! |

| I initially wanted to post this in the general thread, but I was not really sure that was the right place, and so here goes. My D who absolutely loves Elon, and was incredibly happy to learn she had been admitted into the program earlier this month, was really fortunate to learn this weekend she has been admitted into NYU Tisch.
Now why this post you may ask? Well, I just can't say enough positive things about Elon, and even though my D is extremely excited to go to NYU next fall, she would have been equally excited to have attended Elon. For those of you considering Elon, you may think like we did, where in the world is Elon? Coming from CA, I guess we just don't get out enough Please know that we were so impressed by the people (both faculty and students) when we visited and had grown so fond of the program, that it was really hard for my D to send Cathy the message that she was withdrawing her application. Once again, Elon did not disappoint and Cathy sent her the nicest message back. First class all the way.
Those of you accepted and going, enjoy! Those of you still waiting, keep the faith, like my D, there is a plan for all of you! |

| MTgrlsmom,
What a nice post! It is so nice of you to update us on your daughter. Congratulations to both of you! And yes, Cathy McNeela is really a class act.
Glad to hear your feelings regarding Elon, since that is where my D will be! |

| Congrats everyone!
Although I was rejected from the MT department, I was academically deferred from the University. I'm actually pretty happy with that. I thought they would laugh in my face at my grades and stuff, but at least I know there was a possibility. I still won't go to Elon, but I feel that if I can get in academically to Elon, I can get in academically to all of my other schools |

| Your daughter must be out of state or another nationality I had a 4.3 GPA, taken all the AP classes my school has to offer and was told I had a strong essay, over 1200 SAT, white male and was not even given a deferal or wait list....Two cold and impersonal words. "Application denied", that's it. But congrats to your daughter! |

| Elon sure seems like a great school, but they are getting greedy this year! It could backfire when they think all these people who applied wil go there, people with the SAT's they want are using Elon as a "safety" school. |

| Hm, Anti, I am not sure if you were asking me or Hope2Elonmom, but I just wanted to let you know it sure seems to me that you were a very strong academic candidate based or your GPA and SAT scores.
I don't know if you actually applied for the musical theatre program, but in regard to academics, all I can say that tons of schools throughout the country are sending rejections to many, many qualified candidates. There are simply way more students applying to certain colleges than there are spots available.
In our case, yes, D is indeed out of state (CA) but she is 100% American . She was lucky to have a good audition that led to her artistically being admitted. Subsequently, her current courseload (including AP's), solid grades, acceptable SAT & ACT scores, and a great (so she is told) extra-curricular resume with a host of leadership, employment & community services activities led to her academic acceptance. D realizes however that in spite of all that, she easily could have been one of the deferred or rejected ones as well. She also received a rejection, and knows what that feels like, but she still thinks the world of that program; it was just not where she was meant to be.
I don't know that any school these days is really a "safety school" anymore, especially in the BFA world, but also BA's are getting increasingly competitive. Things do tend out to work out in the end though. Best of luck to you this year, and please let us know how things turned out for you. |

I'm sorry for your rejection at Elon. We know from personal experience that rejections really hurt, especially when you were expecting an acceptance. I think your stats look very good, however I would guess that your SAT scores are what hurt you in the EA round at Elon. In the past, 1200 would have been sufficient, but every year it seems that Elon's scores are higher and higher. We have been told that EA is the MOST difficult round for acceptance at Elon because the kids applying who are accepted then often have very high stats yet it is a non-binding agreement, so kids can get in and then choose to attend or not. You are correct that Elon may accept many kids who are using Elon as their safety school. However, many of those accepted kids may also really LIKE Elon, and may attend. I have a daughter who is a current freshman at Elon, and another who was accepted EA yesterday, and both had very good GPA, ACT scores, rank in class, and extra curricular activities. My daughter who attends Elon has many friends there who also had similar profiles and had other acceptances to schools such as NYU, Syracuse, Ithaca, Penn. State, etc. but CHOSE Elon.
I hope you have many great acceptances to other schools this year!! PLEASE don't be too discouraged by this one non-acceptance. It seems that usually things work out and I hope you end up at a school which is just the right fit for you! |
