| Theatre studies The TS major offers many opportunities if you take advantage of them. My s is TS/Business. He worked crew for the first play, performed in a recent dance show and will perform in an upcoming production. You are not required to participate, but may participate in all dept. meetings and may audition for most shows with a few exceptions. He was also able to audition at NCTC and onto SETC where he received 5 callbacks for summer theatre work including one lead. He reauditioned for MT and acting and got into MT for this fall. I'm not sure of the statistics on this. The department would know that. If I can answer any questions please PM me.
herdad, this may also answer some of your questions. |

| herdad - you asked about the theatre studies BA at Elon. I doubt my son would have chosen that if he had other options. I do not think they take performing arts classes that the BFA majors take.
Even though it happens, I don't think going in hopes of reauditioning next year is the right reason to go to Elon for such a degree. The odds are not favorable. |

So sorry to hear about your news from Elon.
Are you waiting to hear from any other schools? Maybe the news will be better. |

May I ask, what did you feel were the differences between Elon and the school you are currently attending that made you want to transfer? |

| did anyone here audition for both the musical theatre and acting BFA? my friend audtioned for both, and got in for acting. he wanted me to find out if acting majors can still take voice lessons and dance classes, even though he isn't a MT major. |

| jbrown: non-majors are always encouraged to audition for main stage productions. we had a number of people outside the department show up for phantom and many read sides or were asked to sing more. one extremely talented voice major was part of the final callback process for carlotta!
peggysawyer: acting majors are welcome to take as many dance classes as possible. as far as voice lessons go, it is totally feasible. although, i am pretty sure that acting majors are limited to thirty minutes per lesson as opposed to the full hour that musical theatre majors get. |

| Hey Taylor - it's Kat!
I wanted to ask if BA Theatre Studies majors could do the same as far as voice and dance classes go. I'm gunna reaudition for both Acting and MT next year, and I'd love to take as many classes as I can! |

| My d is an acting major at Elon and she also takes voice (1/2 or 1 hour per week is available) and dances at the highest level offered. She is able to audition for all shows. It is possible for an acting major to get all of the classes an MT major is offered, but they would have to pay extra and it may mean an insane schedule leaving little or no room for actually performing there. If you compare the two graduation requirements, the MTs take more music classes, while the actors vocal production/directing classes. D knows of one that has double majored in the past, I'm sure it can be done though I don't know that it is necessary and one would have to sacrifice a lot of the other wonderful opportunities in order to do so.
The opportunities to sing outside of the major are numerous as well, including acapella and various choruses on campus, if double majoring isn't desired. Remember that all important mantra here on CC that there are many ways to reach the final destination!

| hi kat,
the answer to your questions is: absolutely! along with the courses you would be required to take as a theatre studies major, you are welcome to take weekly voice lessons with a member of our incredibly talented voice faculty and as many dance classes as your schedule will allow. i look forward to next year!
