| Glad to hear your son's status was updated as well. It is interesting that within one college, updates, e-mails, phone calls, etc., can be (and are!) made at different times and on different days. I heard from a mom last year that her child's friend got an acceptance call from Elon one day; they did not, so thought it was a "no"...only to get a call several days later! Maybe the colleges read this board and decide to torture all of us crazed, waiting parents all the more!
At least things will be finalized shortly. Thank goodness! |

| Congratulations! My son is SO envious right now. This is his first choice school. The waiting is agony, but we hope they'll be classmates! |

| If you get an email saying you are "academically waitlisted" does that mean to the University, or to the MT program? If it is to the U, how does that affect MT admittance? |

| Acceptance to the university itself and acceptance to the MT program are two separate things. The MT notifications should be going out soon (and I've seen on CC where some people have already gotten a rejection). I don't know how being waitlisted to the university affects getting into the MT program. Maybe a current Elon parent could answer that question. |

| MomsterofM, did you actually get an e-mail saying your child was waitlisted to Elon?
My waitlisted child did not get an email but her status reflects that on line.

| Yes, she got an email. It is also posted on her Elon online site.
I found it interesting that she is "academically" waitlisted, since she was invited to the NYU Saturday in the Square reception that I understand from posts here on CC the invites go to the top 10% of the kids accepted at that point. And it sounded like the top 10% refers to academics more than other factors.
Not that every school doesn't have completely different admission factors. But, well, it's just all so confusing.
I guess we'll do some more waiting ..... |

| MomsterofM...yes, now I remember that my "waitlisted" D did get an e-mail from Elon (sent to her personal e-mail address). She replied to it that she wanted to remain on that list and received an automated confirmation that decisions would not be made until mid-June...Yikes, that is a long time to wait & see! |

| MomsterofM.....the Elon decision (so far) for your child is just the academic component. The NYU/Tisch decision is her overall admissions decision, half based on academics and half on artistic review and so we are kinda comparing apple to oranges. Also, I do not believe that the Tisch invitation to Saturday in the Square is ONLY to the top 10%. I truly think MORE than that get invited. Remember, too, that to selective schools like Elon and NYU, it goes beyond just SAT scores and GPA but rather is a wholistic look at many factors, and not just numbers. There are recommendations, essays, rigor of courseload, extracurricular activities and achievements and so forth. |

| MomsterofM - I realize that this is the Elon thread, but just wanted to clarify that the criteria for the Saturday In the Square really are unclear. It is said that it is being sent to a select group of top students Tisch wants to convince to matriculate at NYU, however this select group is not all "driven by academics". I know of applicants in past years with a "fairly low GPA" that were invited, and others, with higher scores, who have had to wait for "regular acceptances". My guess is that there are multiple factors (leadership, heavy extra-curricular involvement?) in the applications, that prompt that selection.
Back to Elon, Elon has become increasingly competitive. It is now also on Princeton or Newsweek's list of "hot schools" , not just for MT, but for many other reasons. This may explain the waitlist a bit. |

| Thanks, everyone, for all your explanations.
Now one more question, please. If the school and MT are considered separately (as I seem to understand from your posts), will MT still consider her for one of their spots if she has this waitlist? Or does she have to "get off" the waitlist academically before she could be considered in MT?
Since Elon had such a high percentage of MT students accepting their acceptances last year, I doubt that they would take kids off of a "MT waitlist".
I'm not panicking, just curious. Elon is very high on her wanted school list. |

| I don't have the specific answer to your question as it relates to Elon. Each school is different and the best thing to do is to ask them directly how that works. |

| From what I hear, there is no information regarding acceptance/rejection to the Elon MT program that you can log on to. The student will find out most likely by phone this week (acceptance), or by mail.
Everything on the ON TRACK system relates to the academic undergraduate acceptance to the school ONLY. This means acceptance, rejection, waitlist, etc.
As you all know, a student can be accepted to the MT program, but not accepted to the school--which apparently has happened. More frequently, though, the student is accepted academically to the achool, but not to Elon MT. I was informed that Elon did not take a single person off of their wait list from last year.
I do not know what would happen, though, if a student was accepted to the MT program, but waitlisted academically. Does anybody know what would happen in this situation?? Just curious. |
