To be or not to be?

Hah, I bet I fooled some of you guys on this one. I bet you all thought if "To be or not to be" would be a good monologue for auditions :P

Well, with that aside...

About a week ago I got a call from Barry Bradberry, the admissions councelor for the Virginia area, returning my message (and email) I left for him. I told him that I wanted to reaudition for the MT program and whether I needed to reapply to the University to do so and that this year I was academically waitlisted (still haven't heard back yet). Well he said that he had to do some research on this, but in the end that, academically, a year of "inactivity" would be "tragic" to my admissions. He made it sound like the only way I could get into Elon next year would be if I had enough (24) credits to be a transfer student. I told him that I would if I could, but I don't have the time to take 24 credit hours with my need to work and audition prep. He said that I almost certainly wouldn't get in academically if I had a year of this so-called "academic inactivity".

Of course I will most likely take a few classes, especially in the spring semester, but it would not be enough to come in as a transfer. He also told me that, even if admitted to Elon's MT department, I would still need to get in academically, which, he reinstated, would be almost impossible for me. Now I remember my mom talking to someone at my audition saying that Elon's Perf. Arts department has a sort of "override" capability. That if a student is average, the department can tell the admissions people that they want the student and that student will get in. But that's not what Barry said.

Well now having wrote this I realize I need to talk to the head of the MT department. I put a request in to see my guidance councelor, who I'm good friends with and Barry apparently knows pretty well, but she still hasn't given me an appointment...

But my question is (after that great, big spiel): Should I even bother spending the time and money auditioning for Elon if it doesn't seem likely that I even have a chance?

I talked to my guidance counselor and she said to talk to the head of the theater department. I guess I'll do that when I get hometoday....

freedom, I would like to hear their response to you...if you get one. My daughter sent Catherine McNeela an e-mail about 2 weeks ago and has not received a response yet. Good luck!

Possible 5th year?

Is there any way you could do a 5th year of high school - - perhaps by being a 'super senior' - - the way student-athletes sometimes do? In such case, I believe you could re-apply to Elon MT as an incoming Freshman and not a transfer student. Of course, you should double-check with Elon admissions but it's just a thought ... Best of luck to you!

Actually, in my case, I'd be just a regular senior because I'm actually graduating a year early (I should have been a junior this year, but instead I'm taking my junior and senior year in one year). I could technically go back to high school for another year, but at that point I might as well enroll in enough college classes to classify me as a transfer student. I dont want to do either of those because I need to focus my time on preparing for auditions and making money to go to those auditions

freedom...did you ever receive a response? My daughter received a response from Cathy McNeela a few days ago which was thoughtful and encouraging. If you haven't reached out to the department, I advise you to do so. They may be able to clear up your questions.

Well I talked to Kimberly Rippy and Barry Bradberry today and they basically told me that if I didn't have 24 transferrable credits to be classified as a transfer student that I just shouldn't waste my time and money applying and auditioning. So it looks like Elon is out of the question for me
