Great job by the Elon graduate in the Millie tour! We enjoyed the performance. Her triple threat training was obvious.

Just got back from our marathon college visit trip to Elon, Penn State, Florida State and Wagner. Wanted to say that we LOVED everything about Elon. Saw a production of Urinetown and it was truly top-notch in every aspect. Singing, acting, dance, sets, etc. all were super. Elonactress, wish we had known who you were in the show, we would defintely have said hi. You were awesome! We had arranged to sit in on several classes (D would have taken the dance classes but has a severely sprained ankle and can't dance at the moment--but boy she had a hard time controlling herself just watching--especially the Fosse jazz class--WOW!!!) Also met with Cathy McNeela (MT) and with Jane Wellford (dance) and they were both so gracious and felt like family. We didn't know what to expect, but Elon is definitely HIGH on the list now!!! D's fall audition is already being planned for! If anyone has any questions about our visit to Elon or PSU, FSU or Wagner for that matter, feel free to PM or email me.

I am a graduate and former Head Resident of Staley (2 yrs) at Elon. I was a Business Admin. and Art double major. I was also in a fellows program, so I can give a lot of insight on that as well...Just wanted to let you know I would be glad to give any info to the anxious parents...
I grew up in Greensboro and attended from 2000-2004 and now live in California, of course I miss home!

Hi, Nicib32, and welcome. Great to hear from you, but I wonder if you meant to post this info on the general Elon discussion thread. Under the college discussion, there is an alphabetical list of colleges, and under Elon, there is a discussion about the Fellows program. Possibly all of those people would like to hear from you. This thread is for musical theatre majors, and Elon is a subcategory among 30 colleges here. No doubt, very confusing!

So, now that you are here, I'm sure people on the musical theatre thread would want to know - did you know any majors in music theatre, and if so, did you know any who also participated in the Fellows program? Either way, were you glad you did the Fellows, and do you think that the program is flexible enough to allow time for both Fellows and MT? MT is almost a triple major, but your 2 double major areas look pretty intense and diverse. Congratulations to you!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think it is great when alum's contribute!

I know that this was originally begun for the MT majors, but I noticed that there were some questions on here regarding other majors and campus questions, so I figured I would offer my assistance to this thread as well. I did know a good number of the MT and PA majors while at Elon and have a little insight from their experiences. I actually found this thread while trying to google info on some of my friends from that area...

Interestingly enough, my little sister is a PA major at a nearby and comparative college, Lee's McRay, so I totally understand the triple (almost quad) major feeling of the programs. With voice, dance, etc. included time management becomes a quickly learned necessity.

The Fellows programs are definately an asset in certain respects. You do get an extra boost in the select classes they choose to be "Honors" and preference for some classes in the core requirements. Most of the Fellows, such as Business, Communications, Teaching and Science, don't take up much time as they are generally just specialized classes and trips.

As for the Honors Fellows in particular, I do know it can take up a good bit of time, in fact I know many people who dropped out of that one Fellows program as there is a lot of pressure to keep the 3.4 GPA as well as meet all the requirements for attending certain events. With the MT major, I know it can be especially hard as many times my friends would have either practice or performance and were unable to attend a required event putting them in jeopardy of continuing that program.

The Leadership Fellows does take some time outside of classes, but not nearly as much as the Honors. Unfortunately, I don't know too much about the Elon College Fellows as it was not around while I attended (they just made the division into the College of Arts & Sciences in my last year of study).

I hope that helped! I'd be glad to answer any other questions, especially on residence life, etc.
Good luck to all the proud parents!

Another quick note...
Look out for the Gain (laundry detergent)-Joyful Expressions commercial, the man on the bus is Nathan Moore, a former Elon MT major!

I'm posting in response to the query about other majors at Elon. My S. graduated in 2004 with a business/finance major and minor in history. The business program seemed to be very competitive with other schools and he came out well prepared for the work force. Has a job in finance that he loves. He truly enjoyed his years at Elon and we as parents found the school and faculty very receptive and helpful whenever we had any questions. It's a great education at a reasonable price with good prof./student ratio and a beautiful campus.

They mentioned at their meeting prior to the audition as did most, that it varied each year because of who says they are coming and who ends up going elsewhere. I assume you got the same note as my D today. I know we are not waiting because she could lose her other acceptances along with the housing if she doesn't act upon one prior to May 1

Discovered waitlist we got via e-mail early this morning was for the University, additional rejection letter received this afternoon via snail mail was from the MT department with a nice note (and I do mean nice) to consider the BA Theater program if you would still like to attend Elon....so if you got an e-mail saying you were waitlisted, read it carefully because the one from admissions means just the University.

In addition to that, D's good friend received an acceptance call this past weekend into the MT program at Elon....Not quite sure how they are doing this but the results are apparently out.

Hey Elon, you made the front page of the Hartford Courant today!

http://www.courant.com/features/life...temailed link

Finally, maybe now we don't have to explain "Where's that, I never heard of it?" So glad we did hear of it, thanks to my D's GC

FYI: They generally do call the accepted students immediately before they receive the acceptance letter. I even lived 20 minutes from the school at the time and was still called two days before the snail mail reached me!
