acceptances

So do any of you know if there have been instances where a student has been accepted into the MT program and then was denied academic acceptance to Elon? That would be such a heartbreak!

I have heard that this has happened, but I don't know whether that is true or not. Theoretically, it definitely could happen.

Oh yes it has happened and I know the girl it happened to. The academic area and the MT area are not connected. They make their own decisions. The girl's mother was so irrate she called and complained but to no avail. .

Tips for non-dancer?

Hi everyone! I've been awfully busy recently, and haven't been able to post. But thank you to all of those who responded to my questions!

I'm a junior in high school and a bit ahead of the curve as far as looking at colleges is concerned... that being said, my weakness in the whole "triple threat" aspect of musical theatre is dance. I know the basics from about 1 year of dance, but I really want to start taking lessons again late this spring, as am exceedingly busy with our spring musical (the title of my username ) Does anyone recommend a specific type of dance? What are the dance auditions like?

Feel free to email me, also. Thank you so much!

I would highly recommend taking as many ballet classes as you can, some jazz classes, and even some tap would not hurt either :-). Most dance auditions have a core of ballet (some barre and some across the floor), and at times some jazz combinations. The information on each school's website is pretty accurate in this regard. Good luck!

Try to take some ballet intensive classes this summer. I agree that also jazz doesn't hurt.

Religion at Elon

I'm planning on applying and auditioning for Elon's mt program. I've heard they are a religious school and I'm not religious at all. Would I be uncomfortable there?

Look through this particular thread and others. Religion has been discussed on more than one occasion.

I think Elon is accepting to everyone and does not overly emphasize religion. I say this in comparison to other schools with which I'm familiar in my local area, where Christianity is more of a focus and you might feel uncomfortable.

Elon is affiliated with United Church of Christ, a denomination with which I'm not very familiar. I've heard and read that it is a more liberal denomination, for example as compared to the Church of Christ in my part of the country, which would be much more conservative and whose schools have a fairly heavy religious influence.

My observation is that all religions and denominations are accepted at Elon and that nothing is forced upon the students in the way of religion. Does that help?

When are you planning on auditioning? If it is this year, I think your academic application is due in early Jan.

I grew up in United Church of Christ and yes, it is very open, accepting and liberal. It has a sort of "where here if you want to check us out but we won't proselytize to you" vibe, if that makes sense.

I love Elon! I applied in the fall Early Action, and was accepted with a small presidental scholarship. Ever since I visited in the fall, there has not been one school that I've come close to loving as much as Elon. I auditioned for the MT program yesterday, and am anxious to hear back. That said, I know it's extremely hard to make it into the program, and if I don't, I'm still attracted to the school itself. I read a couple pages of the thread, but wasn't able to read all 27. I wanted to know if anyone knew how much harder or easier (if at all) it is to re-audition during your sophomore year for the MT program, after being rejected the first time? I'm considering doing this if I don't get in. I don't have any MT back up schools because I didn't decide far enough in advance to plan out various auditions for schools. I already auditioned at one other MT school and got rejected. And the only other "possible" MT school doesn't require an audition for the theatre program, but you have to be accepted at the school (which is very academically challenging) and then audition as a sophomore for their MT "certificate program." I love their program, but I'm not keeping my hopes up do to the fact that it's so academically challenging to get in.

I've been drawn to Elon ever since I walked on the campus; it's so charming and beautiful. It's almost too perfect. and I would love nothing more than to study MT there. I really can't see myself studying anything else, anywhere else. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Relax! Hopefully you will be accepted to Elon's MT and all will be well. Perhaps you should not be too stressed until you get your answer.

In the event you do not get into MT, I recommend you going to Elon for another major only if you can see yourself being happy in another major all the way through to graduation at Elon. I believe there have been a few students who have reauditioned after being at Elon and have gotten into the MT program, but my guess is that the majority do not get into MT upon the second try after being at the school. Do not count on this as a reason to go there without the MT acceptance.
