Residence Hall assignments

Hi y'all,

Wondering what are the best dorms at Elon...any current students care to chime in? My D is assigned to Staley, the dimensions are huge, 20 X 10 for two people?! Nice & close to the theatre bldg, so she should be happy there, I hope. She was a little bummed about not getting in Carolina, though I don't really know if it's because it was one of the few she actually saw, or because she knows a local girl there. We didn't see Staley, is it nice?

Melsmom,

Hi. My daughter is going into her junior year at Elon. Her Freshman year she was in Staley. The rooms are a good size, however they are long, not wide. Placement of furniture is key. They are very convenient to the Theatre building (my daughter is in Vocal Performance) which is great for those 8:00 classes and for rehearsal. It is also very close to the football stadium is she enjoys football. They have their own dining hall attached to the dorm which is great. I know your daughter is bummed that she didn't get Carolina but this location is much better. My daughter got into Carolina her Sophmore year. Frankly she liked Staley better. I think once she settles in she will be happy. There are usually a lot of freshman in that dorm so they are all going through the same situation. Only disadvantage I saw was that the dorm is not wireless, so be sure to have an ethernet cord. They are supppose to be wireless soon. You might want to check before you show up. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. The Theatre department is great. They put on terfific performances. I think she will be very happy there. My daughter loves it!!!

Welcome diamatefl,
What a helpful first post! I will pass the info along and think it will help calm the jitters a little. I wasn't even thinking about a wireless computer but I will be sure to find out more about it when we call DELL. That way if she brings her laptop to the library (the best place to do homework I hear) or anywhere else on campus she will be internet ready.
I am not surprised that your D is so happy at Elon, it seems the best of both worlds...excellent training in performance AND academics, on a beautiful campus. I am so excited that my D is going there and am looking forward to seeing more Elon performances, complete with your daughter singing!
Thank you for your thoughtful reply
Eileen

i'm an incoming freshman, and i talked to my RA about wireless. he said that most rooms can access elon's wireless network. all you have to do is go to the tech center and get a password. if in your room you can't get wireless because you're in a dead spot, they give you an ethernet cable to use in your room and then whenever you're anywhere else you can use your wireless. hope this we helpful information

Yes grantb, this is very useful. I guess laptops are really the way to go in order to take advantage of the wireless stuff. Imagine...you can do your homework under the beautiful magnolia trees. Damn I'm jealous!
