whats the differnce from Elon and Emory?

Just wondering....

Also what are my chances of getting into either..

Hey, I'm a HS junior just looking at my college options... here are my stats (Including next year)

GPA: Non weighted: 3.1
Weighted; 3.7 (about 12 honors, 4 AP)

(Note: my gpa freshman year was about a 2.6, sophomore year about a 3.4 and jr year about a 3.5. I have taken more credits than needed in almost every subject, however i only completed 1.5 years of spanish and 2 years of sign language)

Psat 600 math
570 Reading
490 Writing

Planning on getting between 1800-2100 on sat.

Taking the ACT in April

I'm really involved with my school.

I have been class president for the past 3 year, and plan to do a 4th year, next year.

Clubs im in:

-Young democrats (vice president)
-STAND (its a club to raise awarness about the geneside in Darfur)
-Persian Club
-AIDS peer educating group
-Homecomming/Prom commettie
-Track (indoor & out door)

Outside of school, i have worked at a quiznos for 2 years, and now work for a child abuse clinic. I have also volunteered for a few political campains.

I'm from Montgomry County, Maryland. I go to a public school. MoCo is sopposed to be one of the best public school education systems in the country.

I think Emory is more selective than Elon. You should check out various facts and figures for each university. For example, one school my D applied to accepted most of their freshman class from the Early Admission pool. She applied regular decision and was declined admission. If you know some of these little facts before you apply, you may up your chances.

huge different what's the difference between wvu and yale... from your stat's I think elon would be a much better fit you unless you happen to get a 2250+ on the sat

^ i second that. HUGE difference between the two schools...Emory is one of the top 20 schools in the nation and the school's average gpa is a 3.8 and the average SAT is high as well. You could probably get into Elon, but with those stats you could not get into Emory, especially with that psat (but hopefully your SAT will be higher) and gpa. Nothing else stands out, and your ec's just look...typical.

At the risk of sound like an arse....

No shot at Emory or Elon. People with amazing stats are getting rejected/waitlisted to Elon and to simply put it, you don't have amazing stats. 5 years ago you could have gotten into Elon with those stats, but not now.

Thanks for risking that which may be pretty on-target. Improve those scores and grades. Sadly, Elon's fading into the morass of colleges and U's that all wanna be so equally "diverse" that they look just alike. While Elon and Emory aren't there yet, they're both on the well-beaten, unimaginative path. Still, there are higher education light years that separate Elon and Emory though. Opposite sides of the moon, mostly.

Both Elon and Emory will be big reaches - Emory quite a bit more so.
CofC might also be a bit tough unless you raise your stats.
Take a look at some of the UNCs like Wilmington and UNCA.
Not that familiar with SMU but it seems like it might work.

the $$ concern of your folks cannot, should not be ignored. The rap on High Point, like Elon's altho bringing up the rear @ present, is vastly improving. Maybe Gardner-Webb? Are you restricted to geography?

Look @ Roanoke, a new prexy, maybe trying to enhance their profile. This is tricky because Elon's rise from the ashes took 30-40 years, excruciatingly stable and visionary leadership, etc. So there are no doubt many imitators, few that'll have the planning patience to get, be "there." I'd really wonder about UNC-W or other campuses. Little incentive for any of them to become "student egocentric" like Elon has become. They are publix, run on the cheap with modest motivation to get it well.

Still with nearly 4,000 4 year institutions, be assured Elon's not the only decent place that has potential for fulfilling your dreams. In fact, there are scads of them.

haha thanks alot.. well I mean Ill tell you a little more about my self..

MY EC are above average, just to name a few, I'm a 3rd year and most likley 4th year class president, Im a 2 year vp of young democrats, I have alot of oth EC's too.

My first SAT was a 1770 or 1190/1600... my gpa is a 3.1 but that is mostly because freshman year, this year and sophomore year i made a about 3.5, freshman year i made about a 2.5... so i hope that will help. Also my weighted gpa is about a 3.7 (All over 4 ap's 11 honors classes)

I don't need a great school, just a intellectual school that is more than 3000 but less than 20000. I tend to perform the same as the people I put around me, so I would rather have smarter people around me.

As far as other criteria for schools, I'd like a school in the south, I absoulutely HATE winter, so the hotter the better.

Money wise I want a university that is going to cost less than 30,000 (Including everything) a year.

Also If the school is religious I don't mind, however If all the students are, i might have a problem

Thank you so much for your suggestions, I will take them into consideration, you all have been a lot of help
