I am visiting Elon in July with my daughter. We are flying in from out of state the day before and was wondering if any current Elon students or parents might be able to recommend a hotel in the area I know the web site lists a few but I was hoping to get some first hand feedback. It looks like most of the hotels are in Burlington, which I read is about 10 minutes away. Also, does anyone have any tips, pointers or "don't miss" suggestions for a first time visitor to Elon? Thanks for all help

May daughter and I visited in April, and I highly recommend the Hampton Inn & Suites on Saconn Drive in Burlington. I'm in the hotel business, and this Hampton (which, if I recall correctly, is only approx. 2 years old), is one of the nicest limited service hotels I've ever seen.

It's just off the highway, and near the downtown section of Burlington and therefore close to restaurants, shops, etc. And the 10 minutes between there and Elon is an easy drive.

I agree. the Hampton Inn in Burlington is very nice and the staff is exceptional. Have also stayed the The Acorn Inn B&B in Elon. It is only 2 blocks from campus and is wonderful.

The Marriott Courtyard in Burlington is nice and reasonably priced, and very close.

Love the Acorn Inn too. Also, we have stayed many times at the Country Inn and Suites in Burlington. It is across the highway from the previously mentioned Hampton Inn, which I 've also stayed in twice and it is very nice. I prefer the Acorn Inn (but it only has about 12 suites so is often booked, but you probably won't have trouble in July) because it is within walking distance to campus while none of the other hotels are. Also I personally must have a refrigerator due to medical issues, so both the Acorn and the Country Inn and Suites are nice for that too.

I appreciate everyones recommendations. We booked at the Hampton Inn based on the recommendations here. It was a good price and we have not had any problems at Hampton in the past.

Bobby--I'm interested in how the visit goes, including what other schools you're considering and how they compare. (And I love a Hampton Inn!)

^ Our tour and info session is this Friday. We will also have a chance to meet with the Admissions Counselor that handles our home state. It won't be the same feel as if Elon was in session but it should hopefully give her a partial feel. We can always return in the fall if she "feels a vibe" for a follow up visit. Elon is an interesting option since she is stuck on wanting the small class sizes of an LAC but with a larger enrollment like a university. Elon seems on paper to have both. We will see.

My daughter looked at the school when it was not in session and didn't really like it. We made her go back in the fall when the kids were there and she fell in love. She is going to be a senior next year and going to Elon is one of the best decisions she has made. She loves it.

Well BobbyCT has already attended his info & tour, but I echo the recommendation for the Hampton Inn on Saconn Ave in Burlington. We stayed there in June. Looked brand new, we got a huge room for a reasonable price, breakfast was good, and it's only 2 - 3 miles from Elon.

Just to follow up on my initial post, the Hampton Inn was great. The room was big and the hotel had some very nice modern touches. I particularly liked the open lobby with the big plasma tv. It was an excellent value and I appreciate all the recommendations of the hotel.

As far as our tour of Elon, it went very well. I was surprised at how large a turnout there was for the 9:00 am info session and tour, probably 18-20 kids. I am used to 3-5 kids at these sessions during the summer. The interesting thing is that almost half of them were rising juniors. The campus was beautiful and we followed up on our own with additional visits to the dance facilities and the building where the Psychology classes are held. (Long Hall?).We will return in the fall when school is in session. It is too bad that Elon does not offer an overnight stay program with a student, those are very helpful. One final thing, if you are planning to visit Elon and want to see the lake, watch your step carefully. Those geese have left their droppings all over the sidewalks.

As far as the geese droppings, the groundskeeping crew is not at full capacity/operating mode during the summer. Once the school year starts, it's not like that at all. Spotless.
