The fact that you are an out of region male may be a major advantage for you since the school has a high percentage of female students, almost 60% last year. Your grades fit in the middle 50%. I would not consider it a slam dunk but you would have a great chance. (IMHO).

you look like you have a pretty decent shot... i was looking at their acceptance for students and its actually pretty random compared to bigger universities. I would defintly visit, like i did, and talk to the professors and admission counculers. Go in late September and sceduale a lunch with a student, that's what I am doing. I am considering applying early decision just because I liked it so much. I think applying early decision really helps your chances. I saw a few kids from MN on my tour, which was surprising so I dont know if your geographics help or not. I am also a male and from my research they do accept a little higher persentage of males, but nothing significant. So I am not sure if being a male will get us in. Good luck, you should be accepted...

Can you please chance me;

Side notes: My GPA is by far my worst aspect. I do have a pretty good excuse for the horrible freshman grades. My parents got a divorce the summer before school and I moved out with my mom. So I am writing a short personal statement about that.

OP, if you want to go for sure, go ED/EA. It will improve your chances exponentially.

Pakjan "Side notes: My GPA is by far my worst aspect. I do have a pretty good excuse for the horrible freshman grades. My parents got a divorce the summer before school and I moved out with my mom. So I am writing a short personal statement about that." That's not a good reason. I went through the same thing, and divorce is a common thing, it's not a justification for poor school performance especially when something 50% of marriages end up in divorce. I wish it wasn't this way, but it it isn't. And as for your chances, you have a shot at getting in. The average SAT scores for class '13 was like 1839, so you need to improve those scores. If you're positive you want to go, go ED.

I didn't say don't write something about it. I SAID that it's not a justification for poor school performance. That said, if given the opportunity to explain something, you should always take the opportunity. I know I did.
