Anybody out there?

No one had posted in a month. Is Emerson being neglected, or is everyone else waiting in a patient, mature fashion?

I am waiting still! Although I wouldn't say I feel very patient... the thing about Emerson is that they said they have a set date when they send out the letters, so its not currently as nerve-racking as those schools that say the dreaded mid-march or something like that!

Not much you can do with Emerson since April 1 is the notification date!

Given how technology savvy and functional Emerson is, I wonder if decissions will be posted on each student's status page contemporaneous with the mailing?

At the audition they said that decisions would be MAILED April 1st. They were very adamant that this was just when they put them in the mail box, and not to call on that day asking them about the decision. They did not mention anything about an online notification, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. I would love it if there is... so much faster than snail mail!

My son is a junior in HS planning to major in stage management. We are planning a trip to visit Emerson in April. Does anyone have a suggestion for hotels near the school?

YES, Marriott Courtyard Boston Tremont Hotel - the cities oldest and really nicely rennovated hotel.
You can walk to Emerson, theatres, restaurants etc.

Things can change year to year. Two years ago, Emerson only notified via snail mail. I just looked at the letter my D received from them and it was dated April 5. I do not recall which date she actually received it as I don't have the postmark. It was one of the last schools she heard from, as was CMU.

Wow, that is so late. Did it seem painfully late to you and your daughter then or are we just being impatient? My daughter has gotten into one BFA theater program, but wants to wait to hear from Emerson, NYU, CMU, UCLA, and Syracuse. I'm thinking we may need to send in the housing deposite to get her in a dorm. But so very happy she is in one program.

Well, frankly, a GREAT many colleges notify about admissions decisions around April 1 and so truthfully that is the norm. It is more that we are seeing all these earlier notifications or rolling admissions schools, etc. on this forum but truthfully hearing from schools closer to April 1 is pretty typical for many, many schools. My older D (not a BFA applicant) heard from almost all of her schools around April 1. So, hearing EARLIER seems early to me!

That said, to answer your question about the Emerson notification.....by the time my younger D (the BFA one) heard, it really didn't matter. She was already in at five BFAs including her favorite and her mind was set to attend that school. As far as the schools you mentioned above, my D did not apply to UCLA. Syracuse called with the offer of acceptance during the first half of March and followed with the snail mail letter. NYU sends letters of admissions about April 1 (mailed slightly before) but the invitation to Saturday in the Square for admitted students came sometime around March 20 or so. CMU notifies online and via snail mail around April 1. However, two years ago, not everyone found out from CMU on the same day which was nervewracking. There were some delays. I recall my D finding out AFTER April 1 from CMU. she was put on the Priority Waitlist there. Just hang in there. The process is what it is and will be over in two weeks! Luckily your D has an offer and so the wait is not as bad, even if you understandably are anxious to get the rest of her news. NONE of either of my kids' schools required deposits prior to May 1 and deposits had NOTHING to do with housing (EXCEPT Penn State). Reserving housing and deposits for that came past May 1 and everyone admitted was on equal footing in that regard. The desposit to attend the university and when that was placed was irrelevant with regard to housing at my kids' colleges.

MichaelNKat, I can SOOOOOOO relate to that!

Two years ago, my daughter applied Early Action to Emerson, just so she would have one audition out of the way before the holidays and to hear from one school earlier. So, I go out to the mailbox one day (it is not right by my house) and the mail person is driving up and delivering it and hands it to me and there is this BIG fat envelope from Emerson and I am so excited and telling the mail person how my kid just got into college, thank you thank you!

So, I drive back to the house. My daughter calls during her lunch break from school because a close friend and the only other person applying to BFA programs locally (which is so so so rare here) had driven home during lunch and had heard from Emerson and opened it. My D had always said not to open her college mail and I surely never would. So, when I said to her on the phone that there was an envelope from Emerson at our house too (she didn't drive at the time), she instructed me to open it and so I did, while she was on the phone. So, I got all excited in my voice, reading to her how "congratulations....we are happy to inform you that you have been accepted to ....." etc. etc. and all the information for accepted students was part of this big packet and then I kept reading further down this form letter and next thing I read is that she is deferred until RD for the BFA in MT program! I had NO idea that such a result was even possible (her other schools either accept or deny as ONE deal academically/artistically) and so I did not realize that the EA round at Emerson could result in an ACCEPTANCE WITH A MT DEFERRAL. So, the excitement went "south" even though she was accepted to college (the first she heard from and hadn't even gone to any other auditions yet) but truthfully, she'd never have even considered attending Emerson without the BFA. Getting in academically was nice but not a big shock given her qualifications. So, even a big fat envelope with all the bells and whistles of acceptance may not equate with the letter you think is inside!

And just to go to show you how the result at one school doesn't reflect what will happen with other BFA decisions.....my D was NOT accepted to the BFA at Emerson in spring. She ended up at NYU/Tisch/CAP21. Her local friend who only applied to TWO schools, Emerson's BFA and Tisch, got denied ED to Tisch. She was accepted to Emerson itself in Dec. EA like my D was with the deferral on the BFA part and then in April was accepted to Emerson's BFA.

Emerson really has a true bifurcated admissions procedure. The academic component of admissions is a separate process from the artistic decission. I can well imagine how frustrating it is to get an academic acceptance but learn that the artistic decission has been defered to an entirely separate process.

soozievt - I sent you a PM.
