The letter my D got was specific that the two acceptances are different from one another, and that if she got off the waitlist they would check with the MT department and review her audition results. My understanding is that the waitlist is for the school, and you have no way of knowing if you would get into the MT program if you get off the waitlist. It did not sound promising to my daughter. Read all the pages of the letter you got to gain a better understanding.

For anyone else still waiting on Emerson, I called a while ago and was told that if you are wait listed and you get in, it is for MT, not just general studies. Hope this helps.

Has anyone heard yet from the wait list?

Thank you Benjygil for your post. My d has also been wait listed and we would sure like to know the outcome soon so that we may finalize our plans with another program- if she's not accepted.

All students should send in their intent to enroll along with deposit at a school by now even if waitlisted at a preferred school. Students must move forward as if the waitlist won't move. If it does, that's great. They can pursue the waitlist by sending letters of interest and updates. But students should not hold off in moving forward with another school and securing a spot. I thought most schools want a commitment by May 1. I advise anyone to do this. I'm speaking logistically/deposit, etc. but also even psychologically. The worst that can happen if a student gets off a waitlist elsewhere and wants to attend, is that they lose the deposit at the school that they enrolled in. Of course, it is fine to contact the school with the waitlist to find out if they have a time frame they expect with regard to the waitlist. But one needs to still move forward as if the waitlist will not turn out favorably.

Reviving this thread...I just got waitlisted at emerson. I've heard that it's really sporatic (how many students they go into the waitlist), and there is no order in which you are on the list. I'm updating them weekly, so hopefully the reconsider me. Grrr...I'm sending my deposit to Hartt, though, which is partially refundable. It wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't get into emerson, though.

My D's friend is in the same exact boat. Apparently Emerson's waitlist ends in June?? Hartt will be lucky to have you both. GOOD LUCK!

Emerson Early Action

Is it bad form to apply early action just to improve your chances for admission? I'm sure some of you are going to hate me for even asking this, but I'm just so daunted by the competition at Emerson. Although Emerson started out my D's first choice, that's now changing with every campus visit. And she would never want to apply ED for that reason. But the fact that Emerson's EA is non-binding makes me wonder... she'd have nothing to lose (except extra time to prepare her application and audition), so... would it be bad karma if she were to apply EA to help her chances?

I don't necessarily think that applying early acting to Emerson would help your chances. My daughter applied EA last year and they were very clear to say that only 2-3 girls and 2-3 guys would get in EA and mostly everyone else would be deferred with some rejected. My daughter was accepted but I wonder if she was deferred if she would have a better chance auditioning after the holidays with so many being deferred. I'm always curious to see if they remember you when you auditioned that long ago compared to so many they have seen recently?
