Hello,
I read somewhere here that if you audition for Emerson you can be accepted into the college but rejected from the musical theater program. Is this correct? What other schools is this true for?

I am not sure about Emerson, but this is the case at James Madison, Elon, and I think University of Michigan and Indiana. There are probably other schools as well. To get a greater number of responses to your question you may want to post the general question on the main MT forum.

You can be admitted to Emerson, the college, but not the BFA program. This happened to my daughter at Emerson.

I can't list every school where this is true.

Just to correct one thing in Kat's post, it is NOT true at UMich if you apply for the BFA and don't get the BFA that you may be offered admission to the university. You can only get into the university there if you ALSO apply SEPARATELY for the arts and sciences.

Some colleges have a bifurcated process where you have to be admitted separately to the university and separately to the BFA program. Off the top of my head, this is true at Elon, OCU, Otterbein, Indiana, Marymount Manhattan.

Some schools, it is all one process and all or nothing.....examples are NYU/Tisch, Syracuse, Carnegie Mellon.

Thanks for correcting me about Michigan. I had noticed that a few people had said that they did not get into the BFA, but were going to pursue a BA in another major. Good to know that in order to do this you must apply and be accepted to the college of arts and science, it is not automatic. Thanks!

My son was accepted at (and won a scholarship to) the University of Cincinnati, but did not get in to CCM, which houses its theatre program. He was close, but not close enough! <g>
