Does anyone have any experience with Emerson's summer programs for high schoolers? My junior D has her heart set on attending Emerson for college (non-performance Theater Studies), and she's wondering if the summer program, possibly the TV production one, would be: A) fun and a good learning experience; B) a chance to get a feel for the school; and C) increase her chances of getting into the school. (On paper she's totally qualified.)

But it's a long and expensive program, so we'd love to get input if anyone has attended or knows about it.

My S, who is now a high school senior, went to Emerson's Young Filmmakers Program this past summer. He LOVED it. He definitely got a feel for the school -- living in the dorms, eating in the cafeteria, exploring Boston, etc., and he also learned a lot. He said it was the best summer of his life. I'll have to tell you later whether it helps increase chances of getting in! He is applying Early Action, Emerson is his first choice by far, but his GPA isn't quite what they are looking for. We'll see.

Thanks for the report, jsmom1. Good luck to him. Is is applying for the film program? I know that's a tough one. Hopefully it did help to be there last summer-- and his passion will come through in the application process.

My daughter attended the Summer Stage program last summer and she had the time of her life. It was definitely worth the time and money. She learned so much about both her craft and herself. She is also applying EA as Emerson is her first choice. I think the summer program will give her an edge because she felt so comfortable there and knows the school is a good fit for her.
