| It can be either really hard or easy to write the "Why Emory" essay, depending on whether or not you possess clear reasons for why you want to attend.
Questions to consider:
Is Emory's location ideal for you, if so, why? Is the student body in any way particularly appealing to you? Did you have any meaningful or special experience when visiting the campus? Do you know, or have you ever met, any students or professors at Emory that you were impressed by? Does Emory have a strong program, like pre-med or pre-business, that interests you?
Some reasons that are probably not well received by the admissions committee (even if they're true) : Emory is highly ranked, Emory is a back-up college if I don't get into college X, my parents are making me apply here, or their SAT range fits my SAT score.
Always keep in mind that your statements are more effective when you support them. For example, rather than just saying you like the pre-business program, explain what specific characteristics of it appeal to you. |

| Thanx blaze. But do u have any other reasons. So far I have location ATL warm weather, diversity. I dont mean to sound rude are anythin but all the colleges i've visited are starting to sound the same, but I still really want to go to Emory and some of the only reasons I have include its reputation and SAT scores and that my parents suggested it. I dont want to lie but I also want to write a good essay. I also want to know how long it should be like zkevin. |

| Um, just for your info, you can't use weather/location either
Many students decide to apply to Emory based on our size, location, reputation, and yes, the weather. Besides these valid reasons to choose Emory as a possible college choice, why is this university a particularly good match for you? |

| If fabrication is the only way you can write a good "why emory" essay, then perhaps you should reexamine why you are applying. Applications aren't due for another month, so you have sufficient time to think it over. Such examination will not only help you write a better essay, but also help you realize what you want in a college.
Here is a thread that discusses the length of the 'why emory' essay: Why Emory: How many words? |

| DO NOT write about their size, location, etc. (anything that is mentioned in their dvd). Instead, write about what is special about Emory. Rather than taking a "Why Emory" approach, think "Why not Emory." What makes Emory stand out from the rest of the 3,600-4,000 colleges.
Good Luck! |

| This is the hardest essay. The reason I'm interested in Emory is the reputation of it's business school and it's location including the weather. Those are legitimate reasons for wanting to go to a school. I didn't get to visit. |

| I'm a freshman at Emory now, and I'd be happy to let you see my Why Emory essay... one thing I'd recommend is to make sure you show that you're interested-- I looked at the courses offered online and mentioned some in my essay that I was eager to take... I also talked about lesser-known clubs and events I wanted to get involved with. |
