As you know, what is "hard" for one person is "easy" for another; however trying to assess the relative difficulty with being an NBB major is something you don't have to take on for now. If Emory proves to be the college of your choice, and you continue your interest in wanting to attend medical school, there will be a need for you to take a courseload (beginning in your freshman year) that will put you on a pre-med track. At Emory, as with many other colleges, you will likely identify those courses that you will need to take in order to prepare for med school application in later years. Whether you eventually choose NBB or another major does not matter -- you only need to take those courses that must be satisfied in order to apply to med school.
You will find that many students will change majors -- some multiple times. At Emory, there is an orientation for freshmen in which they get academic advising to assure that they will be taking those courses which will satisfy pre-professional requirements. Declaring a major is something you can do after you've had a chance to more fully digest the academic landscape. If you are concerned about GPA, ask your assigned advisor(s) for their thoughts.
BTW, since my daughter explored the possibility of NBB, I will say that it is a major with demanding (but not impossible) requirements. I think it would be a good major in preparating for med school, but so would many other majors. Don't put any additional pressure on yourself. There will be plenty of time to determine a major, and at a school like Emory, you'll find there will be plenty of alternatives to choose from as well. |
