Is it worth it? Do you really make the money it saids you can make?
Im a student in high school and here is my current GPA - 3.3
Im also in something called early college where my GPA for the classes i have taken is 3.6
Base on those scores do you think i can get in ULL?
Is the Job outlook looking good? I read on a different post some students can't find internships.
Most applications required like 5+ years of Experience.
So what is the avg job pay for students just graduating from ULL?
And lastly there are 3 types of Petro engineering what pays the most?

I can tell you what I can think of the top of my head. You getting into ULL with that GPA should be a breeze. The job outlook idk. Its has ups and downs. When i was graduating high school the job market was supposedly ****ty beyond repair and there were absolutely no jobs. They said the same for bio-medical engineers. Today its one of the fastest growing fields. And the petro field supposedly doesn't look so shabby neither. Of course right now im thinking of another poster who claims that. but he lives in canada.

As for types there are four types if not more. Reservoir, production. completion, and drilling. i think reservoir is the office job. production is a mix between office and field work. and drilling is all field work. completion is also field work.

Drilling makes the most because you are basically selling your soul and freedom to the company for so many years. I cant tell you if you will make six figures by the time you graduate. but with the current economy and the inflation i wouldn't be surprised.

All i can say is. if you decide to go major in it. work hard and im sure you will do good. And if you have any second guesses. Well apparently LSU has a mechanical/Petroleum or Chemical/Petroleum program. Just do your research. good luck

PetE job outlook is about 18% from 2008-2018 ... Engineers

In March 2012 there'll be an update probably 2012-2022 which is probably more suited for you since you'll be class of 2013-'14 ish.

Does anyone know the percentage of students who gets into ull with the petro major?
I'm just scared I don't get in. Just in case any confusions. I'm a soph in hs. With gpa of 3.3 and I taken 4 college courses avging out of 3.6.

What do you know about Petroleum Engineering? Are you interested in it because you read somewhere that it is the highest paying major? I remember reading from a Petroleum Engineer that if oil is not a "passion", you ain't gonna make it, and I happen to agree.

The hours are long, sometimes you just work in the middle of nowhere but what made me want to major in Petroleum Engineering is the fact that my stepfather worked for an oil trading company in Houston, so I understood the business way before I thought of it as a career.

Also the fact that oil/energy has always been a fascinating subject to me, an obsession (as an economist), also I am very proud to tell people that I will be majoring in PE, it is a major that is not very common and most people out there don't know anything about it, so it is always a good conversation starter.

If you are going into it, solely because you read somewhere that it is the highest paying job right now, I really don't think you will be a very happy person down the road, do your research and make sure you understand what you are getting into before making such an important decision, good luck!
