UIUC vs GaTech Civil engineering

Anyone having info regarding civil engineering in these two colleges kindly help me out. Some professors of a certain college said that for civil engg. UIUC is much better than GaTech. Don't know how true that is......

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

Both have very strong civil engineering programs. I believe that their undergraduate rankings are very similar. UIUC is usually considered to have the best masters structural engineering program. I would pick the one that gives you the least debt. Also consider which campus/location you like better. I would choose UIUC because I don't like Atlanta and I like colder weather.

Thanks for replying Civil Engr.....

I would not have any debt and even I like cold weather but is there is disadvantage regarding internships when the campus is in a small town? Does one have more job opportunities in the city? Please keep in mind I am an international student.

First, recycling a six month old thread is considered bad form.

More importantly, and this will create controversy, these schools are the same as is Purdue and a handful of others. A student can get a top notch engineering education from any of them. What distinguishes them are intangibles. The import of these is very individual. Do you hate the heat, better skip UT-Austin. Hate the cold, so long Purdue. In our obsession with rank, we want to know what's best, and there simply is no universal best among the big, respected engineering powerhouses. The decision of why one is better than another is totally contrived to sell rankings books. Your D should pick one based on things that speak to her beyond the quality of education. They are all good.

What did you decide on and are you happy with your decision? I'm trying to help my daughter find a good civil engineering program for next fall and could use some advice.
