About to start studying engineering

Hey everyone,

I'll be a freshman in the fall and I'm going to be studying engineering. I have a year (or a semester) to decide what specific discipline I want to go into. I know basic descriptions of the basic types of engineering but I'm not really sure what type would match my interests. Plus, I think all of the different types sound interesting.

I would like to make an impact on the world, maybe through energy/oil conservation. I'd like to do some hands on stuff and work to create solutions to problems or make things easier to do through a solution. Chemical engineering sounds pretty cool but I'm not exactly sure how much I like chemistry as I didn't take AP and haven't taken it since sophomore year.

Money in my future career isn't necessarily a factor, for having an interesting job is the most important thing, but it would be nice to start at a decent pay and have the ability and room to work to the top in my job and pay.

So basically, what discipline do you guys think I would enjoy most? I've got time to find out for myself but it's something I've been researching a lot lately

You'll have the year to figure it out. That's what it's for.
