Do Concentrations Typically take place of minor?

I'm at CC and will be transferring to Rutgers for Mechanical Engineering for junior and senior year. They offer 2 concentrations, Aerospace and Energy Systems (I'm planning on doing Energy Systems). My question is, are concentrations already embedded into the major, still allowing for a minor, or would choosing one mean extra classes I would have to take on top of the major, essentially becoming the minor?

EDIT: I don't mean "becoming the minor" as in the definition of the minor, I mean the time and classes that would otherwise be allocated to the minor.

AFAIK, concentrations are embedded into the major.
Serves the same purpose as the minor, really.

"Concentration" means different things wherever you go. At my school the word "concentration" is interchangeable with major. You usually cannot get a concentration and a minor in the same department, and up to one course can be double counted for a concentration and a minor.

At my school a concentration is part of your major curriculum, and a minor is something additional. For example: you might major in industrial engineering with a concentration in supply chain, and minor in computer science.
