Another Petroleum Engineering Thread

I've searched this site and I've found answers to my questions, but haven't seen anything recent.

I've recently been accepted to LSU for Petroleum Engineering, and I'm a resident in FL. I was just wondering if there is there any way I can qualify for IS tuition because there are no PETE schools in FL? OOS tuition is killer.

Have you contacted LSU?

Maybe a scholarship? I don't think a school will say, "Oh, you don't have our major in your state? OK, we'll let you come here cheap, then!" I wish it did work that way.

If you do go on to become a petroleum engineer, you will not have any trouble paying off those loans. But that is an extremely risky decision. I agree, contact LSU. And I
do not think any place in Florida that offers it. Too bad.

Well, I know there's the ACM (Academic Common Market) but FL says for them to pay it "you have to be post-grad." Most of the other states in the Southeast will do it for a Bachelor's grade.

PE was in the name of this topic, so I expected this thread to be up in flames haha. Well of you're wanting to get instate tuition for a college that's out of state for you, I'd suggest applying for financial aid. My friend, who's from OK, got instate tuition at UT for PE, which out of state costs like 50k, and he just showed his FAFSA and other proof showing he couldn't flip the entire bill without assistance, so they cut his tuition down to instate. So anything is possible. I'd shoot then an email, specifically to the financial aid department. But from one future PE to another, good luck!

Two things - UT does not cost 50k OOS. Also, it is VERY hard to get a in-state tuition waiver there. The entire school of engineering has only 7 or 8 waivers, and that covers all classes of students, not just freshmen. I know this, because I called and checked. The lady politely laughed when I asked about the chances of my son's receiving one.

VannAleXX, I don't think I can apply for financial aid. I probably don't qualify. Good luck to you too though!

@MaineLonghorn, it's very hard to get IS tuition where?

I didn't know if she switched from UT to LSU or was still talking about UT.
