I'm really interested in acoustical engineering and the study of sound and whatnot. However I only plan to apply to universities in California for my undergrad. Many universities don't have an option for Sound or Acoustical engineering listed.
What majors can I take that are really really similar to acoustical engineering?
Or what branches of engineering focus on sound the most? Thanks

electrical engineering, with a focus on signal processing, DSP, etc

Audio engineering if you're into recording, sound manipulation, equipment and whatnot. Electrical if you're into designing gear for all of the above. For acoustic as in designing rooms or bodies as they deal with sound, my closest guess would be mechanical or some form of structural engineering that specializes in this type of design.

Someone at the audio engineering society (Audio Engineering Society (AES)) should be able to give you good advice. If you are currently in the SF Bay Area then go to AES convention (ends tomorrow 10/29).
