Bruno123's experience comfirmed but not guaranteed. Son, CMU, BSME '06 had good summer engineering experience and hence got good recs along with grades and recs from profs. Declined at 4 US schools for MS but accepted to Toronto on full scholarship + fellowship (they NEEDED a ME at his interdisciplinary institute of his major.) This surprised me, but perhaps supply and demand came into play in his declines from major engineering US grad schools but acceptance from T.

Son is attending MS program because the field he wants to make $ requires more training outside of his primary major. He does have a CMU dual major with the the second major in the field of study at T.

Sidebar: Many of his engineering mates, accepted jobs in the financial centers.
